  • Purchase in July. Travel anytime.
  • Bonus cash back will post to your account within a week of the transaction posting, and will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement and be available for use within 1-2 billing cycles.

Our Verdict

When I first saw the offer, I got pretty excited since I assumed it was 10x on all hotel/rental purchases. But the terms require booking through Ultimate Rewards which obviously makes the deal way less exciting.

Also note that you’ll only get the extra 9% if it’s a cash purchase, not a points purchase.

The extra “9% cash back” should post as flexible Ultimate Rewards points which does make this deal better.

  • I did something really bad with this 10% reward for booking hotels with Chase's Ultimate Rewards program. I made a booking in July through their website with my Chase Unlimited Freedom Card. Statement and rewards were posted since last week, I redeemed in cash and deposited into my other bank account. After I confirm the cash reward posted, I called UR and have my booking cancelled. Reason was change of flight schedule therefore the booking in Sept has been cancelled and full amount will be credited back to my card. I'm expecting to see the big red negative reward points on my UR account. But good that the UR points for this Unlimited card is not mixed with the regular freedom card. The UR program says 10% of up to $2500 hotel and rental car services, so $250 for me. That is also to say in the future I'll still keep the card open but not using it at all since I won't earn points any more. Just checked on UR website, it's been credited. And it will take up to 7 business days to have the credits posted to my card.

  • Spoke to ultimate rewards travel Rep and was confirmed that its a public offer.

  • Is this offer targeted? I'd like to take advantage of this offer since my company pays for my hotel. However, it does NOT show up on my chase UR portal. I also called chase to ask about it and says there is no offer on this. Can someone please clarify ? Thanks.

    • My understanding was that it's public since there's a public landing page. I didn't get the email, but I saw it pop up in the UR portal. Are you sure it's not there as a rotating banner for you?

      I'm still guessing it's for everyone, but I can't guarantee that.

  • I'm assuming it is necessary to book with freedom card? I will be using a rental car while traveling in the UK this month, but need to book with my sapphire card to get full insurance coverage and no exchange fees..... probably more expensive to get car through UR anyway.

    • Yeah, you need to pay with Freedom.

      Definitely compare prices to see if it's worth doing or not.

  • Could not find this on either of my chase freedom accounts. How do you confirm it is valid?

  • So you wouldn't get hotel points, stay credit, or upgrades etc....not really worth it IMO unless it was a chain etc that you didn't have status with

  • I take it I can book a rental car in October but still receive this bonus? I'm not sure if rental car companies do a full auth right now or on pick-up. Since this is through the Chase rewards portal, I'm assuming it won't be an issue?
