Chase Freedom/Flex Q3 2022 Categories: Gas Stations, Car Rentals, Movies, Live Entertainment

The 5% categories for the Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards have been revealed:

  • Gas Stations – Gas is a nice category – with the high gas prices going on it might even be possible for some people to max out with that alone. There are also some convenience stores like 7-Eleven and others which might count as gas.
    • Those who have the 5x Gas offer from a signup bonus should be eligible to get 9x total during Q3 2022.
  • Car Rental Agencies – Car rentals could be useful for summer vacation rentals.
  • Movie Theaters
  • Select Live Entertainment- The entertainment options will be useful as well, we’ll know more on what counts there when it gets formally released tomorrow.

These categories will be live for activation tomorrow, 6/15, and are already showing online in the Ultimate Rewards dashboard after you log into your Chase account.

Also a reminder now to max out your Q2 2022 Freedom $1,500 allotment. I loaded up my Amazon balance (that’s our affiliate link) some and I’ll probably still top off more before the month is over. Today (6/14/22) is also the last day to activate the Q2 2022 categories if you haven’t already.

  • I used Freedom at Costco gas yesterday and I couldn't use it even Costco gas is on the merchant list! I called customer service but their answer was "maybe some location wont't accept it". :( I know we can't use Mastercard at Costco and I was wondering maybe I could use only this July to September. Is there anybody who was able to use Freedom at Costco gas?

  • I paid $100 of my upcoming Disney World trip and only got 1X on Freedom. Does anyone know if it only counts for purchases inside the park?

    • I paid towards my trip and it also showed up as a hotel charge. My trip is a hotel/ticket package. It's possible that you have to be purchasing just tickets for it to count as live entertainment.

  • I logged into my Chase.com account and went to UR dashboard.
    Nothing to activate for Q3.

  • Does fast DC chargers (Tesla supercharger, Electrify America, EVgo, etc.) count as gas?

    • Wells Fargo Propel counts for 3X at Tesla Superchargers (and ialso qualifies for the extra 15X on gas promos) if you have it. Citi Custom Cash also pays out 5% for EV charging. Not sure about the CFF but would love to know if it does!

  • Shouldn't have much trouble maxing out the offer with organic spend at the pump....

  • Anyone else here excited for 5x to max out some 529 contributions? Buying those Gift of College cards at gas stations for $5.95 activation fee for $500, then redeeming into a 529 account?

    2 freedom cards... $1500 * 2 = $3k into a 529, pay $5.95*6 = $35.70, get 15k UR points - I'd say that's a good "spend">>?

  • Most Exxon Mobil / 7-Eleven stores sell SecureSpend Visa's up to $500, which is one of the only cards that still works at Kroger to buy money orders without multiple swipes. Most cards usually have a $99 per swipe limit everywhere except for a few grocery store chains. They may also work at Walmart but I've never tried, so I don't have any data points. I also liquidate these at other stores that I won't name because they are one of my last options to liquidate these cards.

    • I have used the original Chase Freedom at Costco in the past and it has come up for 5%. It so happens that I'll be heading there today after work to tank up the SUV :-/

    • All pumps must code as "fuel dispenser"

No matter where, if you pay at the pump, it should come up correctly

    • @guest_1395212 Chase Freedom gas categories will code as gas at Costco ONLY if you pay at the pump.

    • I think Costco gas codes as gas, need DPs though. You'd also need to have the OG Freedom, which is a Visa
