Chase Freedom Q4 Categories: Walmart and Department Stores

Chase has now unveiled the Q4 categories for their Freedom card. It’ll be Walmart and Department Stores. Category 5% bonus dates are October 1 through December 31. You can begin enrolling on September 15th.

  • Walmart includes physical stores, walmart.com, and Walmart gas, but does not include Sam’s Club. You can easily buy a Walmart gift card at Walmart or walmart.com and use that at Sam’s Club.
  • Department Stores should include places like Macy’s, Kohl’s, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, and Neiman Marcus. Full list can be found here.  It does not include discount stores or super-centers such as Target, Costco, BJ’s, or Sam’s Club.

Walmart sells tons of gift cards which make it feasible to max out the category even for those who don’t shop there. They even sell Visa and Mastercard variable-load cards, though I’m not sure if these can be purchased with a credit card currently or not.

And with the holiday season, lots of people will be able to take advantage of the Department Store category as well.

Full Fine Print:

  • I was being told Online purchase from any Department Stores does not earn 5%. Is that true? I argued with CS from Chase twice already.

  • Just received an email from Chase that " use chase pay with your chase freedom card at shoprite stores or at shoprite.com in December" can earn 5% from 12/1/ to 12/31.

This is good for those who have not max out the 5% in Walmart this quarter

  • Someone said Greendot cards at WM can be bought with Chase F card

Who issues Greendot and where can they be liquidated?

      • Please reply as I am New and would appreciate some help.

Can you shed some light on what kind of Green *’s are they?

        a) My WMT has Re-leoadable ones only and there is a fee to buy them.

        b) are there any Non-loadable ones or all Green *’s are re-loadable ones only?

        c) Also any limit on how much can be loaded per card?

        d) what to do with Green * card after draining it? Throw away or reload?

        e) Different banks or only one bank issues them?

  • The system wouldn't take my credit card, said "canceled" on screen. Cashier said debit or cash only after that appeared.

    • Target isn't included. I'd imagine this would benefit you seeing as you already have 5% at Target and now have 5% at Walmart and department stores.

  • Super confused to see all the wmt.com excluded comments: the faq explicitly includes walmart.com and so does the post.

    • Oh, just not see Chucks comment which implies that the post didn't make this explicit in an earlier version.

      Apparently, I can't read either :P
