[Expired] Chase Hyatt: Two Free Nights (Category 1-7) & $50 Statement Credit

Update 3/9/19: There seemed to be some confusion on other blogs on why I thought this bonus was only good on category 1-7 properties as the landing page doesn’t specifically state that. The offer was originally found when doing a dummy booking and that clearly states the category restriction:

The landing page itself never says the free nights are unrestricted, but I do find it a little weird the category 1-7 restriction isn’t specifically mentioned. Either way I don’t think you’ll have much chance fighting it.

Our Verdict

Previously the best bonus on this card has been 60,000 points. Currently the public bonus is 50,000 points. The Hyatt award chart looks as follows:

If you redeem the two certificates from this deal on a category 7 property then this new deal is better than the old 60,000 point deal as it also comes with a statement credit. If you redeem them for a category 6 property then it’s better than the current 50,000 point deal. Personally I prefer the point deals as it gives you a lot more flexibility but I can see this current deal being useful if you have a specific category 6/7 property in mind and want to redeem the certificates in the short term. Keep in mind the changes coming to Hyatt property categories on March 18th. If you’re thinking about applying for this card, make sure you read through these things everybody should know about Chase cards first.

  • This card has been a nightmare. Chase refuses to honor the promotion, telling me that the offer is only good for properties of Category 1-4. Both certificates I've earned confirmed that in my account. Absolutely worthless. I've talked and talked and escalated my case with absolutely no luck from Chase or from Hyatt. Complete waste of time.

  • My P2 has applied for the Hyatt card twice in the past month and keeps getting denied as "received Hyatt bonus in the past 24 months". Her previous app was 6/27/17 and the spend requirement was met on her 8/13/17 statement - so I'm not sure why her 9/2/19 application would show a welcome bonus within 24 months??? The bonus was 2 free nights. Is there a way to see the exact date the bonus was applied?

Also she got a 5K bonus for adding a 2nd cardholder which posted on the 10/13/17 stmt. Could that be the problem welcome bonus they refer to??

  • I signed up for this and satisfied the signup bonus and Hyatt shows one Cat 1-7 night expiring October 30, 2019, and one Cat 1-4 night expiring June 2020. I called Hyatt and they doubled down on this and told me to call Chase if I had any issues. Chase confirmed that I should have gotten two free nights at Cat 1-7 expiring a year from issuance. Chase had to escalate to the marketing team and they said I'll get a letter in the mail with an update in 10 days.

    • Hey Matt,

Any update on your case? Curious to see if you ended up getting the 2 free night certificate (category 1-7). And wonder if that can be used at Ziva for 4 people?

      • I have the same issue. It's been a month now of going back and forth with Chase and Hyatt with no luck. Stuck with category 1-4 certificates and they refuse to budge.

  • Can these be redeemed at Small Luxury Hotels as long as the point value is under 30,000 points a night?

  • Are the certificates valid for 1 year or 6 months only? That isn't clear to me even from the offer sign up site. Thanks!

    • Each Free Night Award is valid for use within one (1) year from issuance for one (1) night in any available standard room at any Hyatt hotel or resort worldwide or participating M life resorts. Each Free Night Award must be redeemed for a reservation with a checkout date before the expiration date of the award.

      • I'm on hold with Hyatt now because my two free night awards are showing an expiration of 6 months.

  • Strictly worse than 50k and 60k points in my opinion. The major value in Hyatt points is in category 1-3 hotels. Extremely low point value for hotels that often go for $200 or $300. If you go for category 7 hotels ,then obviously this deal is great for you. However, you can get MASSIVE value doing several smaller weekend trips, or even two separate trips at category 3 or 4 hotels.

This would be a good deal on a Marriott or Hilton card, but not for hyatt.

    • 60k points is worth 4 nights at a category 4 hotel and 5 nights at a category 3. There are some really nice hotels in this group. Points are worth way more than (2) category 1-7 nights.

  • Category 8 Hyatts are a recent occurrence right? Maybe the picture you're showing is them trying to say that the nights can be used anywhere, but whoever made it forgot that they had category 8 properties now. Or maybe it was made before there were category 8 properties?
