Chase & IHG Extend Cobranded Partnership Until 2036

  • Honestly the Select + Premier is a powerful combo in today's world of devaluations. I probably wouldn't use IHG without it, but for now it's my go-to together with Hilton. I do put spend on the card sometimes when they have promos and when I've used up the points purchase cap.

  • Has anyone else noticed specific hotels just straight up blocking the use of the free night credits? I've found a couple. Even when the rooms are below 40k, as far out as you can possibly book, there is never availability at some hotels.

    • If you are using computer then use your phone or the other way around try tablet too
      I had the same problem

    • Yes, I've seen a few hotels blocking free night certificate but allowing points. But I have seen the opposite as well. They are different pool of availabilities.

  • it's hard to make money for anyone on cobranded cards, but glad they're extending for so long.

I feel like once upon a time in Canada Capital One had something with IHG

  • IHG would make more money if Chase had to buy more points. But since there is little reason for most people to actually use the cards for purchases other than maybe IHG stays, I am not surprised this isn’t a very big moneymaker for IHG.

    • IHG / Chase could run transfer bonuses to IHG, that would generate income for IHG, but even a 100% bonus wouldn’t excite me.

      • Chase needs to increase the UR to IHG transfer ratio to at least 1:2 and then we're talking business.

          • 1:3 would be generous and I’d love it. With 1:2 at least I could justify a transfer when there’s an additional transfer bonus going on, or when I have a fourth night free to redeem.

          • I can buy IHG points at 0.5 cpp pretty regularly. At 1:3 ratio that would value URs at 1.5 cents per point, which is pretty reasonable. Now, at 1:4 I'd be transferring them speculatively for sure :D

  • I usually use my IHG free night rewards for the Phoenicia Beirut hotel a grand historic hotel with sweeping staircases and ornate chandeliers. I hope it survives the current bombing campaign. ☮️🕊️

  • The combination of Select & Premier card, plus the ability to regularly buy points at 0.5 cpp, makes the program really valuable to me. Glad to hear that the partnership is extended.

      • Because you can double dip on the benefits. But it is all academic for you if you don't already have both cards because you can't now.

    • IHG Select + IHG Premier + IHG Biz is a great 3 card combo from Chase. Don’t forget to use the 2 x $25 United travel bank funds to offset $50 on the AF.

      • Yes. There's a 15 day overlap window that new $25 credit is issued and old $25 credit is still active (Jan 1-15 and July 1-15). You can book the UA tickets using $50 United travel bank fund all at once instead of try to use $25 credits two separate times.

      • What do you get from the Biz other than the annual cert? For me Select + Premier are the two static cards, and Biz is one that can be churned during elevated SUBs. Only time I use IHG cards are Chase offers, even IHG spend often times can get you more on other cards.

          • I know it is not but I still have it and I thought that if I still have the Select card that I am not eligible for the Premier card if I still kept my Select card open?

          • It used to be possible to have both personal cards. Some of us still hold both from when they allowed you to get both.

    • Glad that someone else shares the same opinion! Seems like almost everyone else online is touting Hyatt, Hilton or Marriott, none of which I found compelling.

      • It seems there is never availability when I look to book with points. Are you not having that problem?

        • Honestly I rarely encounter that problem, except when I tried to book very close to my travel dates (2 weeks or less).
