Our Verdict

There is also the five free night certificate offer (up to 40,000 points per night). Points offer gives you more flexibility but I don’t think either offer really compares to the five free night (up to 60,000 points) that we sometimes see. We won’t be adding this to the best credit card bonus page.

  • I have had the IHG Select card for several years, and I want to close it and apply for the premier card. Does anybody know if I can immediately open the premier one after closing the Select, or should I wait a certain amount of time?

  • FWIW, Retention Offer:
I called to close this card today, freeing up the possibility to re-open a new one down the road and get the bonus again. I cited the annual fee hitting, and me not really using the card recently - it was opened 5 years ago. They mentioned a retention offer of $50 off the annual fee.

  • Auto-approved, 3/24 and now 4/24, 2k limit (my lowest CL card ever?), have 4 personal cards and 3 biz cards active with Chase.

  • Approved, 3/24. 4 Personal cards, 4 business cards active with Chase. Got a call instantly from the fraud department asking me to verify information. Never happened before. They just asked for zip code and maiden name.

  • 60K FNCs makes sense if you have something specific in mind and is in the range(also sucks that you can't top them off). I personally prefer the 170K offer and just applied it for my wife. I used the same offer to book 3+1Free night(40K each) at the Big Island Hawaii($1700 value) and i am still left with 50K points that won't expire.

  • This value seems extremely fair.

Just looking at Seoul, South Korea for: InterContinental Grand Seoul Parnas (Thursday checking out Sun)

    3 Nights Cash = $915 ($305 per night)
    3 Nights Points = 159,000 Points.

Appears to be pretty good redemption for some parts of Asia. Points are probably around $700-750 for popular US Cities like Los Angeles.

  • Feels like this offer is definitely better than the 5x FNC.

Here's some simple math: If you stay five nights at a hotel that costs 40,000 points, you would use all five of your FNC. However, if you used points, you'd only used 160,000 (Due to fourth night free, the first four nights would be 120,000 plus 40,000 for the fifth night).

170,000 offer: You have 10,000 points left over plus a free 40K FNC that comes with the card
5x FNC: You have nothing left over and you overpaid for your room since it the points cost is 160,000.

Takeaway: If you're using the 5x FNC for a one, two or three-night stay, then it makes sense. If you're booking for four nights or longer, then the 170,000 is better (Also, the FNC expires, but points don't as long as you have the card)
