Chase has just sent out a round of e-mails to people that currently hold a Chase Ink Plus card. The e-mail states that you can receive 10,000 Chase UR points for every person you refer that signs up, is approved for the Chase Ink Plus card and uses their card by January 21st, 2015 the kicker? The sign up bonus on the Chase Ink Plus is 70,000 after $5,000 in spend.
It has been possible to get this 70,000 point sign up bonus if you applied at a Chase branch, but not everybody lives near a Chase branch. The usual sign up bonus is 50,000 points although it does regularly go up to 60,000 points as well. Both the in-branch offer and this new offer have an annual fee of $95, whereas the usual 50k/60k point bonus has the annual fee waived for the first year.
This is a good offer, especially if you can refer yourself (e.g husband already holds the card and refers the wife, or daughter refers the Mom) as it effectively becomes an 80,000 point bonus. Rather than outlining why you should get this card (5x Chase UR points at office supply stores make it an excellent option for manufactured spending), I’m going to outline some reasons as to why you shouldn’t get it:
- According to DansDeals, the Chase Ink Bold is being phased out. This might be your last opportunity to get this card (although it has the smaller sign up bonus of 50k points with AF waiver)
- This is a business card. Chase has been making it more difficult to get approved for business cards unless you have a legitimate business, this is especially true if you already have or have held Chase business cards in the past.
- This card does not have the annual fee waived
- This card requires $5,000 in spending within the first three months
My Thoughts
I’m not going to sign up for this card because I already signed up for the Ink Bold earlier in the year. If I hadn’t done that, this would have been a tough decision. The fact that the Ink Bold is being phased out makes my initial reaction to go for that card, but I would be missing out on 30,000 points (as I could have somebody refer me). In the end I think I would just apply for the Ink Plus card and pocket the 70,000/80,000 points.
I also don’t think there is any urgency what so ever, deals come and go. If you don’t go for this card, something else will come along that makes sense. Don’t let any other bloggers, friends or family tell you otherwise. Also, have a look at who does and doesn’t disclose the referral bonus and support those who do.
Sharing Your Referral Link
When possible, I like to let my readers post their own referral links when there is a reward on offer. This is no different, you can post your own Chase Ink Plus referral link below but to make things interesting you also need to find and share a credit card that earns a cash bonus of $100 or more that is not listed on this page OR a credit card that earns at a rate of 4%+ in any category that is not listed on this page.
If you don’t do that, we will just remove your link.

I don't have a referral link but mine just says that if you email me your first and last name to my email address Chase will send you a referral.

Thanks!
Is there a way to secure/apply for this card even if you don't actually own a small business?
You can say you have a small business (e.g reselling on ebay/amazon or childcare) but Chase have been asking more and more questions and cutting down on this so you might not have any success. I'd recommend reading through the Chase Ink threads on flyertalk for more information and up to date data points along with peoples individual experiences.

This is an NEA card from B of A, but you do not have to be a teacher to get it:

Used, your link and just got approved after a recon call. I was a bit nervous as I got denied for the Bold back when it was 60,000 for having too many new Chase cards. Very excited to not have to miss out on all the office supply fun anymore.
Public offer? :D
