Chase Ink Preferred used to earn 3x Chase Ultimate Rewards points on Cashstar purchases. I’m not sure when this stopped working (around February 18th) but these purchases are no longer coding and earning 3x. It hasn’t been a good few weeks for these types of changes, with the following happening:
- No more 5x on MPX when using Platinum cards
- Giftcardmart no longer earning 5x on Chase Ink Plus/Cash
- Gamestop no longer allowing Gamestop GC to Amazon GC conversions
- Alliant shutting down giftcards.com purchases
Cashstar was important as some retailers used it for their gift card sales (e.g Best Buy) and they often had discounts. We’ve added this change to the Payments Workshop.

Does the cip still earn 3x on venmo? This may be the last bastion on that card.
This sucks. Almost all gift card avenues dead for Ink. Might be forced to product change/cancel my CIP since there's so little to earn bonus on.

@will looks like spam
Nope it's not, just copy and paste, spread the gospel of credit union credit cards
David can you stop posting it in every thread? It's really annoying and doesn't add anything to the discussion.
Ok then Mr. Complainey pants. The discussion it did add was the superiority of PenFed credit union pathfinder rewards amex over the CSP.
You're just listing the benefits of the card, it doesn't add anything to the discussion about CIP no longer earning 3x on these purchases. Does that card earn at a high rate on cashstar purchases? If so talk about that rather than just copying and pasting.
Would appreciate a h/t for noticing. ;)
? NBG noticed it...
Oops, guess my reddit post with your username was later. My b.
