Update: This offer is actually available on all Chase and American Express Marriott cards, and including the Ritz card. The only card not eligible is the currently-available AMEX Marriott business card), according to what FM was told by Marriott. Apparently, it’s not a Chase promotion, but a Marriott promotion.
Note: the limit on Chase cards is $5,000 in purchases while on Amex cards it seems to be $7,500, according to reader report.

The Offer
No direct link, check your email
- Earn 6x points at grocery stores on the Chase Marriott Bonvoy card from May 1 through July 31.
The Fine Print
- Up to $5,000 in grocery spend gets the bonus.
- No enrollment or activation required.
Our Verdict
I assume this was sent out to all Chase Marriott Bonvoy cardholders. The banks are feeling the heat to offer non-travel benefits/perks on travel cards since no one is traveling now.
Note: you might do better with things like 5% on Chase Freedom this quarter or other cards that earn a bonus at the grocery.

I got twelve times points on Amex Surpass via email. Thank you!
Contacted amex, representative confirms my old spg card earns 6x for up to $7500 at grocery store.
I give Marriott credit in that they’re actually trying.
Compare this to UA whose CEO whines about Chase UR cards scooping up tons of spend while massively devaluing MP.
This is a nice gesture during the corona virus pandemic, since we aren't traveling to receive our points. However, with the Freedom card earning 5 points per $ on groceries through June 30, I have to weigh what is more valuable, 5 UA Miles or 6 MR points. The UA miles win. Of course, during July, I could still do some grocery spend with my Marriott card for some extra Marriott points.
This website is frequently bemoaning political comments but I see Trump ads every time I visit it. DOC, get your house in order.
My understanding was that banner ads appear based on browsing history or when Google is eavesdropping on your voice conversations. Could be location based on IP too.
Just got the email now. It may not be targeted, they may just have a slow rollout. Updates from Bonvoy (Promotions, etc.) normally arrive a day or two after I hear about them on blogs and formus, and this is basically right in line with that. Just be patient, folks!
I typically redeem Marriott Bonvoy Points for 0.9-1 cent each so I might switch from the AMEX Gold for a little bit.
Same here. A few considerations:
- hard to earn a lot of SUBs due to anti-churning rules
- low ongoing earn, almost always representing a high opportunity cost - even if you use a value of $0.008+/Bonvoy point
- the airline transfer option makes me want to keep a good amount on hand, just in case
- a "good value, but still achievable" airline redemption for me might be 2cpp, which is equivalent to $0.0083/Bonvoy (when transferred in 60k increments)
So I set a minimum of $0.008 for redemptions, and aim for $0.01+. I've gotten as high as $0.013 a few times, and my balance has been fairly constant over time (i.e. I'm neither hoarding them nor aggressively burning through them).
Best use is definitely Cat. 1-3 and/or last-minute - 0.9+ cpp shouldn't be hard to get there. Obviously some people prefer much nicer properties; to them I say, "You ain't earning them quickly enough to make rapid 'earning and burning' a viable strategy! Instead of grabbing a SUB and immediately burning it at 0.5cpp because you 'think' that's the best you can do, grab the SUB and keep it as a last-minute/airline transfer emergency fund." It's like no one understands scarcity.
How much value do you usually get from your AMEX MR points?
If you get 1.5 cents or more from MR than 4x MR > 6x Marriott
I transfer my points to Delta and Marriott at times and then sometimes I redeem them for airline via the AMEX Business Card for 1.53 cents in value (if you factor in the rebate). They all tend to give me 1 cent or more in value and they're the only programs I use, so they're all interchangeable for me.
But MR points are worth average 2x and Gold gives 4x so that's 8x vs 6x at best on your calculation?
I don't go by the industry average of 2 cents lol
In most instances the Gold will be the winner, but I'm in need of some Marriott Points. No reason to transfer 4:4 when I can just earn 6x directly I guess is what I'm saying. I'm going to end up transferring AMEX points to Marriott at some point as I always do.
what am i gonna do with 6x Marriott points? lol
Wuhan have some great redemption options...
you my friend, have just won the internet for the day
Safer than most cities in America, sadly.
Got email for my Ritz Carlton Rewards Card.
Does the 6X points also apply to grocery stores internationally or is this promo limited to US-based grocery stores?
+1
