Update 5/7/21: Chase is now mentioning an end-date for this offer of May 22, 2021 in emailers about this signup offer. (Hat tip to TheSultan1) Update 5/10/21: Source that the offer might continue at least through May 24, 2021. Possibly longer. Update 5/19/21: Now we’re seeing it likely being around at least through June 1, 2021.
Update 4/10/21: Some people have been unable to apply in branch (annual fee waived first year), this issue will be fixed on 4/23. If this affected you and you applied online Chase is willing to apply the annual fee waiver. Probably won’t work unless you actually tried to apply in branch as it logs the branch application when it was tried. Hat tip to EosHuffer
Update 4/6/21: This offer is now available via referral links as well.
Update 3/22/21:
- Here’s the public link for the 80,000 + $50 offer.
- Increased Sapphire Preferred/Reserve offers are live in-branch as well. The Sapphire Preferred comes with the $95 annual fee waived for in-branch applications. It’s worth making an appointment before going in. (There are conflicting reports in the comments on whether people are seeing the $50 grocery credit with branch applications, but you should be eligible for the $50 credit, regardless.)
- I don’t think these new offers are available via referral links. No word if that will change in the future.
The Offer
(No direct link, this offer begins on March 21, 2021 for online and in-branch applications)
- Signup for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and get 80,000 points after $4,000 in spend within the first three months. Plus, get earn up to $50 in statement credits towards grocery store purchases within your first year from account opening.
Card Details
- $95 annual fee (not waived first year)
- No foreign transaction fees
- Primary car rental insurance
- This card earns at the following rates:
- 2x points per $1 spent on travel and dining at restaurants
- 1x points per $1 spent on all other purchases
- Transferable points
- Redeem points on Chase’s travel portal at a value of 1.25¢ due to the 25% travel redemption bonus
- Not eligible if you’ve received a sign up bonus on the Sapphire Preferred/Reserve in the last 48 months (standard is now 48 months)
- Chase 5/24 rule applies to this card
Our Verdict
The standard bonus has been 60,000 for a while, and they recently began throwing in the extra $50 credit. I believe the highest public offer we’ve seen was the 80,000 points offer that ended just a few months ago, and beginning March 21 we’ll have the best-ever public offer of 80k + $50.
We’ll have to wait and see if the 80k + $50 becomes available via referral as well.
Also note: you can sign up in-branch and get the $95 annual fee waived.
There’s also an increased Sapphire Reserve offer coming on March 21st as well. See these 26 Things Everybody Should Know About Chase Credit Cards before applying for a Chase card.

P1 referred me on 5/23/2021. I met my spending requirements quickly, now my 1st statement shows 80K points. But P1 still don't see the 15K referral points in P1's account. Is there any place shows pending? P1 doesn't find it. Anyone knows in my case, where P1 will get the 15K points. Thanks.
I just received the CSP using the 80k offer, will chase match the new 100k offer?
I called after I met minimum spend. Answer I got was they won't match the 100k
Also interested to know the same. Any one tried calling chase for a match?
I called, said they've been getting a lot of calls asking that. Said to call back once the bonus posts and maybe a supervisor will bump it. Said no way to escalate before that happens but that could be bull.
This is now worth 100K on the official website. woohoo. Just got out of the 48 month chase jail - perfect time to apply.
Is there anyway to know when the 48 months is up?
I have called Chase customer service and even they couldn't find out.
Will branch waive annual fee too?
When logged into my chase account, I see 100k offer for 4k spend over three months, but no grocery credit nor annual fee waiver.
Does sapphire checking bonus count towards the 48 month rule ?
if I own chase reserve do I qualify?
No
Does anyone know how the 48mo calculation actually work? The statement date showing it posted or the date when the spending requirement met?
I think one will be rejected if it’s not yet been 48 mo since last bonus (vs approved but no bonus) - am I right?
48 months since statement date when it posted
I got 6 credit cards with Chase. I just opened up the CSP yesterday and was approved!
I was just approved for this card in branch today. 80,000 points signup bonus, $50 grocery credit and annual fee waived for the first year. All this information was in the documents my banker printed out for me.
I have two Chase Freedom credit cards and a Chase business credit card (no deposit accounts). My credit score is high. This card does not show on my Chase "Just For You" offers and my banker confirmed that I was not pre-qualified for this offer. The surprising thing was that I was sure that my application would be rejected since I've opened exactly 5 personal credit cards that show on my credit report over the past 24 months (the 5th card was opened in August 2019). Not sure how I made it through but it definitely turned out to be worth trying even considering the ding.
Please forgive me if this is covered somewhere, but I’ve looked on the reference pages and I don’t see it. I’m 0/24, with many Chase personal and biz cards. It’s been more than 48 months since I got my current Sapphire Preferred and its bonus. I’d like to get it again.
I’m assuming I cannot have a second SP card and that I need to cancel that card. If that’s correct, how long do I need to wait before I can apply for a new SP?
I was a little concerned about the use of my UR being limited without the SP, in case I am rejected for a new one, but I have the Ink Unlimited so I think I”m still ok. Also, I use the SP for car rentals and would be bummed if I can’t get a new one.
TIA
You need to downgrade and wait 3-4 days, if you cancel you need to wait 1 month.
Thank you! The Chase representative told me on the phone when I downgraded it that I would have to wait 30 days before applying for a new one. I saw your response this morning and got it approved. I downgraded the card on May 28.
Thank you; very helpful. I think there's a Freedom card I don't already have so I can downgrade to that.
You can get multiple of the same freedom.
my friend just tried to open the card at the bank and was told they could not open the card 'because he was not pre-qualified' ????
