Our Verdict

We’ve seen various signup offers on the card, including this same offer in Q4 2022. I’m hopeful we’ll see this offer come to referral links in the coming weeks (as was the case last year with the referrals coming soon after the public offer launched) which would give the referrer a 20,000 points bonus. In any case, we have until December 11th so it could be worth waiting a bit in order to help out a friend when applying.

The timing for applying now is excellent for the purpose of acquiring the Southwest Companion Pass. You can time yourself not to meet the bonus spend until after January 1st, 2024, and then complete the spend requirement. That’ll ensure you get the Companion Pass for nearly two full years. You can one of the personal cards with 75,000 and get a business card with 80,000 points bonus which would get you to the Companion Pass threshold.

We’ll add this to our list of Best Credit Card Signup Bonuses. Before applying, check out these 26 Things Everybody Should Know About Chase Credit Cards.

  • Thanks for the reminder, DoC. Successfully did MDD for 2 personal cards at the last minute, CP here I come.

  • Do not make a rookie mistake like I did. I TRUSTED customer service reps that said my first billing cycle will end next year. My first cycle only last for 10 days and just closed. all my points were posted and nothing they can do...

  • Last bonus received on 1/4/22.. can the freeze trick work here? I haven't hard pulled Chase in two years, does anyone know what bureaus it pulls in NJ?

  • Brain not funtioning today. Just received approval for SWA personal. Has a statement closing date of 1/1/24. Trying to maximize the 2 years for CP. to clarify, if I make purchases now till then, points earned will apply to 2024 totals? Thanks

  • My p2's link shows 50k in points for personal. If I use his link, would I not be eligible for the 75k?

  • Ok, so just to clarify... If I received a sign up bonus for ANY of the Southwest personal cards within the last 24 months, I am not eligible to receive a bonus on any of these cards?

  • I did the 100K personal offer in 2022. The first 50K posted on Jan 12, the 2nd 50K bonus posted on February 12.

I understand that you can open the card before those dates so long as you hold off on meeting the spend threshold until after the 24 month period.

Which date do you think I'm looking at? Should I open on Dec 10th, then cram all the spending in late Jan/early February to hit?

Or i guess I could just open the 80K business card, though the annual fee is tough to swallow

    • You ‘understand’ wrong. You can’t apply for the new card until 24 months has passed since you received the previous SW bonus - in your case, the date when the 2nd half of the 2022 bonus posted.

  • I just applied for the Southwest Business Card. How long should I wait to apply for the Personal card?

    • I applied as soon as I got my business approval approximately 10 days. Tried calling each recon line to move credit but was told couldn’t do anything till I heard their decision. Personal approval showed on line the next day after I called.

    • I don't think there is any need to wait. It doesn't sound like you got another personal Chase card recently.
