[Dead] Chase Southwest Personal Cards With 50,000 Point Bonus & No New Restriction Still Available

Update: After clicking through the new language now shows, I’ve updated this page to make that clearer.

Earlier today we told you about a new rule that Chase has introduced on the Southwest personal cards. You’re no longer eligible for the sign up bonus if you’re either a current Southwest personal cardholder or a previous cardholder that has received a sign up bonus in the last 24 months. I’m fairly confident this has to do with a new Premium personal card that will be launched. Interestingly there are still two links for the Southwest Plus & Premier personal cards with 50,000 point bonuses without this new language:

Double check the offer details before applying, but applying through these links should mean the new rules don’t apply. This could be a good option for those that want to grab another Southwest personal card but would be otherwise ineligible due to the new terms. Keep in mind the Chase 5/24 rule does apply to both of these cards.

  • I applied for both cards and got approved through these links on the day this news broke. The language on the landing page is now different than what you will read on the application page. Now I'm not quite sure what I have applied for. My thinking is it was the old language or I would not have been approved for the second card. I would like to message Chase and ask but I really don't want to bring unnecessary attention to my account. Probably no point in poking the bear since it's not going to change anything. It would be nice though to know whether I getting two 50,000 point offers or possibly only one 40,000 point offer or am I getting shutdown for opening 2 accounts within 2 minutes.

  • I’m not familiar with southwest, is 50,000 points a good deal? I have had United, delta, and American Airlines so I’m used to the ability to get 25,000/pp round trip within US.

  • When applying for the PLUS card, new language is in the fine print :-(

This product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.

  • Landing page of the above links say the old language but when in the application of the Premier link, the wording is NEW language and says “this product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card” - it does not say THIS card as the landing page does. So I’m not sure these links would work

    • I just checked the Premier Link above and it shows the old language. I wonder if it's an auto-denial if you app for one with the new language.

      • Something is up. I just applied for Plus (opened Premier Jan 17) and received this message:

"We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days."

Language was the old language with reference to "this" card.

  • So If I'm going to make it to 60,000 points this year, and I haven't had this card in 6 years, should i go for it? My current companion pass is good good through 2018. I travel for work and so I take my wife with me. And then next year would I still be okay gettin the business version for another 50,000 or is that going away with the new language

  • Just created a referral link and:

"Earn 40,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.* This product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months."

    Really Distressing!

  • The language is in the offer details for both links under Bonus Points

"This product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of this credit card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of this credit card who received a new Cardmember bonus for this credit card within the last 24 months."

  • Interesting. I saw this, and I actually still used my friend's referral 2 hours ago with the "ANY" language and I still got approved. I was helping her get the 10k bonus for Companion pass.

Asking Chase if I qualify for only 40k bonus. Already got Companion Pass with Plus + Business.

    • That is a noble move! You are a good friend. Giving a friend 10k instead of pocketing it, and putting another card pn ypur CR... hope you get matched to 50k, you deserve it. Although I doubt it will happen. Never heard of matching a referral to public, only public to public. Pls let us know if you get it.

      Good luck.

      • Other friend I would hesitate but it was just her wedding and she hosted our group in the hotel for free, so there's that.

And I was the one that told her about getting plus+premier+referral for easy110k companion pass so i feel a bit responsible. I had to stop churning chase CC and go with other CC provider so this is a good incentive since I'm now 5/2 (5 person, 5 business, :D). Running out of CC to churn with chase!

Will report back if I get approved for 40k still, or not. I don't need the match & nor would I ask for it to make sure that she'll get the 10k points.

        • I have never heard of Chase approving a card and denying the bonus. Chase outright denies the card.

          • That seem to be the case, Mike!

Just got back from Chase SM, and they mention that I do qualify for my bonus after 1k spending after 3months for 40k. Good stuff.

Even if the ToS say otherwise when i applied, it's not populated into the system yet apparently.

          • So your application had the new language and you were approved ? I would make that spend ASAP. God luck

  • Will there be an option to upgrade Plus or Premier to new premium Southwest card?
