In a recent post I shared working links for the 50,000 mile offers on the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard & CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select Card’s. I also let you know that it’s possible to request Citi match you to a 60,000 mile offer on the personal card and many readers were able to get matched on that card.
What I didn’t know, is that it’s also possible to get matched on the business card. Reader juanbeny was the first to alert me to this fact and then this was backed up by other readers on twitter (Thanks @subarge & Roar_Singh). Basically what you need to do is this:
- Call or send a secured message (I find SM to be easier)
- State that you saw an offer for 60,000 miles and were hoping to be matched
- Wait for a response
I personally wouldn’t recommend applying for the business card or personal card with the expectation to be matched to the 60,000 mile offer, instead treating it as a nice little bonus if you do get it. Of course if you’ve already applied for either card, it’s definitely worth a message or two.
Let us know if you were successful or not in the comments. Fingers crossed you are!

There is still a live Cit AA Biz app with 30K bonus miles, and no 24 mo language. Think Citi will match the 60K offer with the 30K base offer? It only requires 3K spend, so guess they will not match 30K more miles due to lower spend requirements?
What's the link? TIA. No idea if they will match, my guess is yes
Thanks for the post, DOC!!!! You just earned my wife and I both another 10,000 AAdvantage miles!
YOU ROCK!!!! Huge credit goes out to you man! This website has serious value and I'm glad I subscribe to your emails.
Data point: I opened my CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World MasterCard in December and was approved on 12/18/15. I sent a message yesterday asking about the 60,000 promotion. I received a response today that they would credit my account an additional 10,000 miles in 2 business cycles. Same story for my wife.
Thanks for the post. Sent an SM and within 15 minutes received the response I was hoping for....extra 10,000 points added.
Great blog.
Got Matched today, confirmation from Citi in 2 hours.
Awesome, congrats!
Can anyone tell me how to SM citi? Thanks,
Question for those with experience with Citi Cards. When the AF hits next year, does Citi offer you 60 days after the AF has posted to be able to cancel the card and get the AF back like they do with Chase cards?
Since I opened my personal AA card on 3/1/16, I am wondering when I should cancel my card next year to avoid getting charged the AF?
you got 37 days from when the fee is added to account
I just signed up one week ago, got my card and activated it yesterday, immediately SM-ed about matching up to 60,000. I got it matched today! :) *happy dance*
Tried to match up from 50k to 60k - was told that since my Citi card was more than 90 days old that they could not match the offer for me.
DOC offering tons of value to me as a reader lately. Thank you very much.
I've had your website in the #4 slot for the past several months but today I'm moving you up to #1. I'm sick of the drivel from VFTW "thought leader in travel" my ass half of his stuff is just round-up from other places. And OMAAT has virtually nothing anymore aside from hawking CC... He seems to be following MMS down the crapper.
I'm curious -- if you read this -- what would be your top couple blog recommendations? I like FrequentMiler, MilestoMemories.
Anyways, thanks and keep it up.
My favorite is probably PFdigest, he covers weird credit cards that I get a kick from. I also like freequent flyer book, travel is free, free frequent flyer miles and the ones you mentioned as well (plus a lot I am forgetting). Gary cops a lot of heat, but he is well connected in the industry and I agree with a lot of what he says. Obviously some of the CC posts are just advertising, but if you get over that it's still a good read.
I got a 60,000 mile offer by mail for the personal Platinum Select last year and I didn't waste any time applying. The 60,000 miles was tempting enough, but the icing on the cake was 0% interest for the first year, which to me is almost unheard of for an airline card. That allowed me to prepay a lot of bills to hit minimum spend and not worry about coming up with the money immediately to avoid interest. That's the only targeted offer I've ever received that I thought was truly exceptional. Everything else was either an average public offer or slightly above average (ie the Delta Gold Amex 50,000 Skymiles offer).
So while you're on the phone with Citi, tell them you saw an offer for 0% interest as well!
