    • Deposit $15,000 within 30 days of account opening and maintain that balance for at least 60 days

The Fine Print

  • For Citibank’s Retail Checking 40,000 AAdvantage® miles Offer (“40,000 AAdvantage® miles Offer”), “Eligible Customers” are (1) New-to-Citibank Customers, (2) who enroll in the AAdvantage® 40,000 miles Offer, (3) are at least eighteen (18) years of age, (4) have a valid W-9 or W-8BEN on file with Citibank and are not subject to back-up withholding, and (5) have an AAdvantage® account held in their name. “New-to-Citibank Customers” cannot be current owners of a Citibank consumer checking account or have been an owner on a Citibank® consumer checking account within the last 180 calendar days before enrollment.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Citi Account Package $25 Monthly Fee (30,000 mile Bonus)

  • The Citibank Account Package needs $10,000 in combined average monthly balances to remain fee free. Otherwise, there is a $25 monthly fee.

Early Termination Fee

In the past, Citi has not charged any ETF, and none is mentioned for this offer.

Our Verdict

We’ve seen a 30,000 mile bonus before and there is a 75,000 mile targeted bonus as well, although this 40,000 mile bonus is in line with the requirements for the 60,000 mile bonus on that offer. There is also a public bonus for up to $600, although the requirements matching this 40,000 mile bonus are for $400 ($500 with a direct deposit). I’ll just ignore the targeted bonuses as obviously they are better if you’re targeted. Some people will prefer $400/$500, whereas others will prefer this 40,000 mile offer.

  • Opened July 2019, deposited amount 4 days later, and now nearly 6 months later, no points. I followed all the requirements to the best of my knowledge (never had a checking account with them, I have an AA account). I have contacted Citi multiple times and their final answer is that "no such promotion existed" (despite screenshot evidence). Anyone have an idea of what my next steps are? I'm thinking just throw in the towel and close the account and avoid future dealings with Citibank.

  • Opened 6/26, funded with $15k until 8/28, dropped to $10k but still have to wait 90 days which is still four weeks away. Anyone receive any points yet?

  • Was hoping to get in at the last minute, but looks like they have already pulled this offer as the links no longer work.

  • Talked to customer service about where to enter AA miles account info. He said this is for targeted customers only whose AA account info is already with Citi. So basically there is no way to give them AA account info. And if your account wasn't targetted you will not be eligible for the promo and won't receive the miles. In his own words ....

"I believed this offer is for targeted clients only ant there is no need to provide the number. As the AA number is already linked when the offer was generated. "
"That is correct, this is for targeted clients only. But you may avail other promo if you wish."

  • If I close before I receive the points, will the bonus still be valid? Any DPs on how long it takes to get the points?

  • Anyone knows how they actually award miles on these banking promotions? They never have a field for AA number on the application

  • Opened an account in branch. Just realized the banker never asked for my AA account number :(

    • Called the banker today and she was curious where Citi would deposit the AA miles. She asked me to contact her after fulfilling the requirements and she will fight for me. What a shitty bank!
