(Update) CLEAR Cancelling Some New Customer Signups & Issuing Partial Refund

Update 2/18/25: People are now reporting getting a $75 refund as well (two separate refunds: first for $124 and now one for $75). We’ll have to see how this plays out; presumably they don’t plan on sending the Uber voucher now that they’ve refunded the $75.

Multiple readers who signed up for CLEAR membership and took part in the $75 Uber promo are now seeing a no-notice cancellation of their CLEAR membership. It’s not clear (pun intended) why CLEAR decided to cancel these new memberships.

We wrote the other day about how CLEAR started adding in some of their terms exclusions on ‘people getting a promo from their credit card’ from earning the $75 Uber promo. I’m not sure how CLEAR knows who is getting a promo from their credit card and who isn’t. Perhaps the card numbers indicate which cards are Platinum cards, and then CLEAR cancels those memberships.

Strangely, those cancelled are getting notice of a $124 refund, not the full $199. Apparently they still plan on sending out the $75 voucher, and are thus refunding only $199 – $75 = $124. You should get the voucher sometime after February 18th when the promo period ends. (There are even terms-of-service mentioning that accounts cancelled within the year will have $75 deducted.)

My own story from September 2024 is that I signed up for CLEAR membership, along with the $75 Uber promo. The same thing happened to me with my membership cancelled/prorated and I received a $124 refund credit on my Platinum credit card statement. I believe I got partial year of CLEAR membership and most of the year cancelled, but I’m not certain (did not use).

The $199 Amex credit and $124 refund credit both posted for me, and I got the $75 Uber voucher. I was happy with that outcome and so I never dug further into why they cancelled mine.

Interestingly, I see in my CLEAR login that they invite me to sign up again and get a $75 Uber voucher. If I get another Platinum card I’ll try that.

  • Any current promo codes for Uber voucher? Just got the Plat. Only offer I can currently get is free 2 months , which is better than nothing. But it will only benefit me if I cancel Plat in future and then have a little extra time or they take away the benefit

  • The original $199 charge triggered the Platinum card credit, then got $124 and $75 refunds like most of you guys; the Clear membership credit pointer also went back to 0 after receiving the refund. However, I don't think Amex ever clawed the $199 credit back, at least for now (45 days after the refund)

    • Nice, consider yourself lucky. Many people complaining on Reddit that TSA Pre is getting better to minimize the need for Clear

  • anyone still waiting on uber credits? first time account, cancelled after a few days, got $124 credited after spending the $199 which amex reimbursed. no uber credits and no extra $75 refund from Clear

    • I contacted them and got a refund for the remaining $75. They didn't give me any problems when I asked them for it.

    • Two accounts, got $124 credited, but nothing else. I can't even log into either of them as there appears to be no record.

    • My account was not cancelled, and there was no voucher either. I emailed them, and they said it is being escalated to the marketing team.

      • I am on the same boat. They said they will get back to me in email within 24-48 hours and it's been a week. I've messaged them that it has been a week and they said they will "escalate" it, but at this point, im about to dispute the charge if i don't get it by next week.

        • I received the Uber voucher after the escalation! It finally came yesterday. I was able to apply the voucher in my Uber account successfully as well.

  • Received Uber bouncer for P1. P2 account was cancelled shortly after signing up. Both were first time Clear users, the whole promo is strange.

    • so your account wasnt cancelled and received the voucher but p2 was cancelled and didnt?

      trying to put together who is receiving the voucher and who isnt.

      • Correct, my account wasn't cancelled and I got the Uber voucher. P2 signed up shortly afterwards and got cancelled (with no Uber voucher). Both were first time Clear users.

  • Can't use the voucher on rides or food delivery NOT to Clear locations is this right? I can't get it to work on normal Uber stuff.

  • Dang I just checked one of my old emails I did Clear on in years past and it had the rejoin for $75 uber voucher offer but it expired on 2/17, oh well

  • P1 signed up for a new account and was cancelled and refunded. P2 signed up as renewal and wasn’t cancelled and got the $75 uber credit today
