On August 1, CLEAR increased the price from $199 to $189 without any notice. The price for additional members is now $119 (previously $89). American Express has also changed the credit on select cards from $189 to $199 meaning you can continue to get this benefit for free.

Is there currently any sign-up bonus for a new member of CLEAR?
My renewal was on August 5 and they sent me a renewal email notice on July 6 with details of the price increase. I guess you'll only be notified of the price increase when you're close to renewal.
"As a reminder, your membership renews in 30 days. Unless your Delta SkyMiles® status changes before that time, you will be billed a total of $159 on August 5, 2024.
We have updated our pricing for Delta SkyMiles members. If you are a:
- Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Member, the price for your primary account will increase from $149 to $159 on your renewal date.
- Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Member, the price for your primary account will increase from $149 to $159 on your renewal date.
- General SkyMiles member, the price for your primary account will increase from $179 to $189 on your renewal date.
- Diamond Medallion Member, the price for your primary account will remain at $0.
As a reminder, with your American Express Platinum Card® card on file, you'll get up to $199 in statement credits per year after you pay for CLEAR."
My wife and I both have Clear from the American Express Platinum benefits. While I will accept it as long as it is free to me, there is no way I would ever pay for it. I can not see any real benefit. Especially with any time savings. Some of the Clear employees are just plain unpleasant and they appear to hate their jobs. Many do not have the social skills to deal with the public.
Can’t wait for the TSA to use the same camera and identification technology as Global Entry. You look at the Global Entry camera for 1-2 seconds and it recognizes who you are…
not sure why some of the comments are saying it's "better" than precheck, when clear expedites to the front of the line in precheck... there is almost always a line in precheck when i fly, and the clear + precheck makes it faster for me - bonus: most of the time i don't need to take out my ID since the biometrics check + clear escort bypasses that
Clear is often a joke. In Vegas it will take you longer. It is so rare that I save any time whatsoever with it. I was at JFK recently an I was much better just usign the regulat Precheck line. Maybe it saved me time a few times in many years. Definitely not worth one penny and the credit cards that include it for me, I value it as worthless.
For real. We don’t need a third option. Just make pre check efficient for everyone. Clear is often longer line, plus the machines don’t work great, I often STILL need my ID, and I gotta wait to be personally escorted. So much work and money for minimal benefit.
Recently flew out of JFK and the new TSA Digital ID was faster than Clear + TSA precheck. Hoping to see this technology roll out more broadly, it would render Clear obsolete.
What terminal? I'd be interested in trying it if it is faster than TSA or Clear+TSA. The line was shorter? Is it a separate line?
Terminal 4, it's a separate line. It might only be supported on Delta for now. When I checked in, my boarding pass showed a Digital ID badge: https://www.delta.com/us/en/check-in-security/expedited-airport-security/delta-digital-id
I initially went to Clear+TSA and it was the Clear agent that told me the digital ID line was faster.
I have the complete opposite experience of a lot of the complaints here. I’ve flown out of Denver 30+ times in the past 2 years and have always found CLEAR faster than the normal line and the PreCheck line. I do have Global Entry as well but have never waited more than 5 mins to get through the CLEAR line.
Denver is one of the most congested airports I've ever seen in the US.
Probably because all of the construction from remodeling as well as replacing the train cars. Im guessing it will get better real soon as the improvements are already paying dividends.
No issues w clear at all. If you want to complain for something that's paid for via a CC, by all means, leave the 'useless' credit unused & continue to queue up & enjoy taking your shoes off, amongst other things.
P2 has Clear and Global Entry/TSA. She almost always finds it faster to use Global Entry/TSA. We've tested it on occasion where I went through TSA and she tried Clear. One time she had to get out of the Clear area because the employees were busy chit-chatting and didn't pay any attention to her. I haven't bothered signing up for my free Amex Clear membership.
Had Clear+ for three years, when the credit was first offered on the Platinum. It was break-even or slower than PC when I really needed it. At MCO, TPA, FLL/MIA it's been redundant or closed down at odd times, and it's slow at JFK/EWR. Once I canceled the Platinum and then the Green, so went the Clear membership.
Sam for me. Precheck lines usually faster. Vegas, FLL, JFK recently for me. Clear is a bad joke. I wonder how many pay vs how many get it with the cards. I value the benefit as zero. It really has no value. A rare use case, soomebody will say they use it all the time and its great. I know one thing. I would never pay for it.
