  • Periodic reminder that you need to be careful buying gift cards for flights because you likely end up losing the various travel and purchase protections from your CC.

    • As long as you pay for part of your flight, most of the premium credit cards will still cover you on travel-related benefits.

      • This is not really true. Amex doesn't cover at all unless you paid for the whole trip with their card, and Chase just made a change where they only cover up to the amount spent.

        • > Chase just made a change where they only cover up to the amount spent.

It was reported that way, but in re-reading the old terms, many people believe that there was actually no change at all; it was just a rewording for clarity (and many people may have misinterpreted it originally).

        • I've had multiple Trip Delay and Trip Cancellation claims that were successful using gift cards (along with e-credits and coupons). See Amex's language on this:

"You must charge the full amount of a Covered Trip to your Eligible Card or in combination with your Eligible Card and accumulated points on your Eligible Card or redeemable certificates, vouchers, coupons, or discounts awarded from a frequent flyer program or similar program."

  • Normally sams will beat it at 419 but I'm not seeing the 500 card on the Sams website right now for some reason.

  • It’s crazy how many people are posting “not the cheapest airline for me” and then proceed to name something either (1) specific to their airport (2) way more budget benefits than southwest.

Yes, if you buy a flight on a cheaper tier or closer to their hub it’ll be cheaper than the other option. Doesn’t mean it isn’t viable at other airports. Southwest in particular with their rater non-hub strategy is extremely variable location to location.

  • $429 seems to be the regular price now. Bring back $400 or $409 and I might buy some.
