- You must pay taxes on your bonus. Banks are required to report bank account bonuses to the IRS, Chase will send you an 1099-INT form.
- You can only receive one checking account and one saving account bonus per calendar year. This is based on when the account is opened, not when the bonus is received [1].
- If you close the account within six months of receiving the bonus, Chase will deduct the amount of the bonus at account closing. If your account has already been emptied, Chase will consider that this account was not closed in good standing and you won’t be eligible for future bonuses (credit card bonuses included).
F.A.Q’s
Can I Receive The Bonus If I Already Have An Account?
If the promotion is for new account holders only, you will need to have not had an account with Chase for at least six months. If you still have an open account, you may be able to threaten to cancel your account to get the bonus applied – people have had mixed results with this.
Can You Open A Total Checking Account/Premier Checking Then Downgrade To A Student Account?
The student accounts are not usually eligible for the sign up bonuses, but they have much more relaxed requirements for skipping the monthly fee (which is also lower, only $6). It is possible to open a total checking or premier checking account and then downgrade to a high school checking or college checking account. You can also do the same for the savings accounts. The Chase customer service is the worst I've experienced compared to other banks. Conflicting information from different channels (e-mail, phone call, etc). What a shame, they must've slashed customer service and training budgets. Even the manager is clueless or was trying to pass the buck, they can't do anything.
Trying to get Chase premier checking bonus which requires directdeposit. I have no employer nor government check to deposit. Capital one 360 &/or Alliant worked a year ago but I can find no updated info here on doctorofcredit.com nor on fatwallet as to whether they still work. Any info, data points & experience are greatly appreciated
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/#Chase says alliant push no longer counts as dd at chase but what about capital one? I see it crossed out on the old list but not mentioned on the current list.
Why is there no reference anywhere on https://www.doctorofcredit.com for the current (exp1-15-2017) chase premier plus checking offer (which can be done online)?:
Enjoy $300 on us
As a new Chase checking customer, when you open a
Chase Premier Plus CheckingSM account1 and set up direct deposit2
Because that offer sucks and it's only available with affiliate links. We aren't sure if Capital One works or not, my guess is not.
what do you mean by affiliate links? this is directly from chase

Also, what is so bad this year about that offer? It was always discussed here in previous years. What am I missing?
I'll post it and explain why it isn't the best deal when I do, thanks for letting me know :).
thank you ... is it a new link?
Datapoint:
5/2/16: was on travel for work out-of-state, opened Total Checking via Ebay coupon, was able to use my normal home address (nowhere close to any Chase branches)
5/17/16: ACH transfer Wells Fargo -> Chase ($50)
5/24/16: $300 bonus posted
Thanks, added DP.
I have multiple Ink business credit cards, for different businesses (not authorized user cards). Can I get multiple account bonuses by procuring multiple bonus offers and opening multiple business accounts? Or do they limit this by SSN, address, or something else (they are all sole proprietorships).
You can get multiple bonuses for separate businesses by applying for each one with a separate EIN or one with EIN and one with SSN.
This is a tried and tested fact? This could be very helpful info. Thanks!
Damn, I don't have any active EIN's. I used to, but not any more.
Logging into my Chase checking account, I noticed I had an offer for $200 to open a new chase checking account. The offer is immediately below the WELCOME message and above the account listing, center left. Small rectangle: "GET $200 when you open a Chase Total Business Checking account with qualifying activities." Clicking the link gets me a unique promotional code to print to bring into branch. The offer terms are as follows:

I value my relationship with Chase (my primary checking/savings are with them), and have been a long time account holder. Not sure who else is getting this offer.
Might be worth logging into your chase account and poking around for this.
Better to get a $300 offer from eBay.
Savvy discussion ! I Appreciate the information ! Does anyone know if my business would be able to find a sample IRS 1099-INT version to use ?
I just got the $300 for opening a checking account (the one paired with the $200 for savings) by doing a $500 transfer from my Simple checking account. The Simple transfer coded as a PPD without my name. I haven't seen anyone using Simple to get direct deposits triggered, so I thought I should post here. Thanks for all the info! Oh, and I signed up in a branch with the coupon I got from Chase directly. The $300 bonus showed up the other day, six days after the transfer.
Will all coupon codes work online? I got a $500 offer (checking w/direct deposit + savings) in the mail, it says to go into the branch but I noticed that the online application for has a coupon code field and accepted it. However, it didn't confirm the offer details, although it might have later on in the process. I'd prefer not to have to go to the branch (even though I have several in my area) but also don't want to do anything that would jeopardize the $500 bonus.
Has anyone had success using a screenshot of the sign up offer (meaning if I purchase one off of ebay and get an email of the offer card)? I'd like to buy one off of ebay, but don't live near a Chase branch. I'll be near one tomorrow, so wanted to take advantage of a $300 checking offer, but it won't arrive at my home in time for me to use it.
