Delta Extends Travel Vouchers, Companion & Upgrade Certificates

Update: These have been extended through December 31, 2022 now.

Delta has it announced that it will be extending upgrade certificates, $200 Delta travel vouchers and also companion certificates.

For eligible SkyMiles® Medallion® Members, we’ve extended upgrade certificates and $200 Delta travel vouchers, and for eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Members, we’ve extended Companion Certificates. Now, you will have until the end of 2020 to enjoy those benefits that were originally expiring before June 30. We will keep you informed on additional decisions as we evaluate overall Medallion Status and promotions.

So it looks like companion certificates may not have been extended through the end of the year. When I looked about a week ago, all 6 of my companion certificates (3 cards, awarded end of 2019 and 2020) had been extended until 12/30/2021 but now they show 06/30/2022.

My $200 travel voucher eCredit for my choice benefit last year (wasn’t too sure on grabbing RUCs at the time) shows 12/31/2021. Maybe the extension to 12/31/2022 is only for 2021 choice benefit vouchers?

  • Just checked my Delta wallet. My Delta Platinum companion pass, originally issued 8/1/20, has now been extended to 6/30/22 (previously extended to 12/31/21).

  • They are about suppressing votes of people of color. Don’t support delta. Spend your money elsewhere

  • Glad that Delta is paving way for some good news. I had tickets vouchers expiring on 30th April and was wondering to call and check if they will extend but now I don't have to worry till Dec 2022. Great job Delta!

  • I got $600 worth Delta gift cards. Can someone please tell me the best way to cash them? Thanks.

  • I can’t change or cancel my Delta ecredit tickets online it forces me to call in and get a call back in 5-6 hours. Several times I’ll get called at 2am.

    • I’ve run into not being able to use an eCredit a couple of times and had to call in. They were quick calls last year, but when I called a week or so ago, it was almost a 2 hour call-back even on the Platinum Medallion line.

They said they started getting an enormous amount of calls about a month ago and it’s been crazy. As people are getting vaccinated and destinations open up, it’s not unexpected that they would be overloaded particularly with people using a lot more credits than they would in the past.

  • Of all the airlines I had to deal with on my trip cancellation, Delta was one of the best. They returned all my miles and fees with no problems. AA did the same. United, on the other hand...

  • Unrelated to travel... but Paris Baguette (a bakery chain, with an app-based loyalty program) recently announced that due to COVID-19, some customers may be unable to unwilling to use their hard-earned free pastry rewards before their expiration. Instead of just pushing back the expiration dates, they gave people a new free pastry reward for every existing one in the account, and with a July expiration date. In other words, they doubled everyone's vouchers.

As someone within walking distance to a Paris Baguette, I was happy to get doubled free food. But more importantly this gesture immediately made me think about Hyatt, who has been a pain in the ass resistant to extending my free night expiring in early April. I get that the business is hurting (hotel and bakery both), but while one continues sticking the bad luck to the customer, the other goes out of the way to make the deal sweeter amidst the suffering. The contrast is stark.

  • Had a trip scheduled for may 9th to the 20th to london and edinburgh. Had to cancel, Delta refunded everything, points and cash. No problems, no questions. Thanks Delta. Am having problems with British Airway, they want to give me a voucher good till 12/31. No use to me as I won't be able to go for the rest of the year. Good thing I paid for it with Amex....just a short dispute away.
