Double Dipping The Citi Premier & Citi Strata Premier

Citi is retiring the Citi Premier on May 9 and launching the Citi Strata Premier on May 16. The cards are virtually the same with some minor improvements for the Citi Strata Premier. It looks like it might be possible to get the bonus on both cards. This is because the terms on the Strata Premier are believed to say:

Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a Citi Premier ® or a Citi Strata Premier ℠ account in the past 48 months.

The key wording is that you can’t have had the new account bonus on either card in the last 48 months. So theoretically you could apply for the Citi Premier now and then wait to complete the spend to trigger the bonus after getting the Citi Strata Premier. The risk is that you won’t be approved for both cards, but in the past it has been possible to do this to get multiple bonuses on this card (the better option might even be to wait for the Strata Premier and try to double dip that twice).

    • I did, see details in my earlier posts below. Approved for Premier a few days before Strata, Premier was converted to Strata before I even received the card. Completed Strata spend and received bonus before doing the same on Premier/Strata. I did mostly bank funding for both, so low risk, non-bonus category spend if it hadn’t worked out.

        • Great Southern Bank (local) and US Bank (regional). I’m an existing customer and in footprint for both. I didn’t bother checking the CAL for either card beforehand, as Citi doesn’t seem to run bank funding as cash advance any longer.

  • I applied and was approved for the old premier on 4/24. On 5/16, I received the notification that my card have be automatically updated to the strata premier. On 5/21, I applied for the Citi Strata Premier with the 75000 SUB and was instantly approved. I hit the minimum spend of $4000 on my Strata Premier on 6/4 and see the bonus tracker on my citi app saying I'm going to receive the 75000 bonus. Planning to hit my old premier card's minimum spend in the next few days. It's looking promising, but I'll wait and see if I actually receive both 60k and 75k bonus.

  • I think today's my 8th day? (5/20 approval) wasn't sure if it was day 8 I could apply or after day 8. But I've never done the double dip - does it need to be one public, one referral application or can it be public referrals?

  • I applied for the old Citi Premier 5/9 with the old SUB of 60k points. This "old" Premier card that I received last week is already the NEW Strata Premier.
To double dip would be tricky at least and I'm not looking forward to a fight with CS over the SUB and receive a denial. Considering to cancel before paying the AF.
Anyone else - trying to double dip - agrees ?

  • Has anyone gotten approved for 2x the Strata Premier yet? I got my first approval on 5/12 and I'm strongly considering going for #2 in a few weeks to a month (so me and P2 are not working on 3x4k subs at once)

  • Applied Strata today (5/23) and got approved. If I wanna try double dipping, I can just apply for another Strata 8 days later?

  • Approved for Premier on 5/9, approved for Strata Premier on 5/18. Same CL for both, making 5th and 6th open Citi cards, logged in for both applications. 13/24 (17/24 including biz) cards and 29/24 pulls, but oddly I don’t appear to have received a pull for either of these apps. I plan on completing Strata min spend before Premier spend and hope for the best.

    • Is a double dip still possible after the conversion on 5/16 by email of the initial Premier I was approved for on 5/9, but still haven't received ?
Or should I apply for the Strata now and only keep the latter for the SUB ?

      • Unknown, but as this apparently used to be possible with Citi (no personal experience) it seemed worth a try. Strata T&C says no bonus w/in 48mo of bonus from Strata or Premier card, but Premier T&C when I applied only says no bonus w/in 48mo of previous Premier bonus. Logically I should complete Strata spending, and hopefully receive that bonus, before doing the same for the Premier, but I don’t think this part is clear from the DoC post.

  • I don't think this would work for anyone? What would prevent you from opening 2 Citi Premiers before the change would now prevent you from doing Premier + Strata Premier, because it is just a product rename.

  • Anyone still see a Citi Premier (not Strava) application link somewhere? Would be interested in doing the double app as described here

  • I applied for Citi Premier last week on 60k offer. Card hasn't even shipped yet. In Citi login, now shows as strata premier card. Having trouble getting matched to 75k public offer via phone. Going to try messaging Citi
