eBay Bucks 6% Promo, New Promo is for Sellers Too

The Offer

eBay has a targeted eBay Bucks promotion for buyers and sellers:

  • Buyers and sellers get 6% back in eBay Bucks on their purchases/sales

The offer for buyer’s is the standard offer of 6% back on most eBay purchases. This one doesn’t seem to have any minimum purchase requirement.

The seller’s offer is something entirely new: sellers don’t usually earn any eBay Bucks for making a sale. Now, eBay is offering 6% back on the sale.

If anyone can share the link to these offers, please add it in the comments, thanks.

The Fine Print

  • The buy offer ends on September 9 at midnight PT. For sell offer, you need to list by midnight on the 9th and sell by midnight on the 19th. (“Users who purchase eligible items between 5:00AM PT on September 8, 2016, 11:59PM PT on September 9, 2016 (the “Purchase Earn Period”) will earn the promotional offer. Users who list and sell eligible items between 5:00AM PT September 8, 2016 and 11:59PM PT September 19, 2016 (the “Selling Earn Period”) will also earn the promotional offer.”)
  • Eligible items include items from all categories except: Classifieds, Business & Industrial, Real Estate, eBay Gift Cards (within the Gift Cards & Coupons category), Bullion (within the Coins & Paper category), and eBay Motors (including Parts & Accessories).
  • Be sure to activate both the buyer offer and the seller offer to be eligble.

What to Buy and Sell

For the seller’s promo: find stuff you were thinking of selling anyway.

For the buyer promo, there are a number of decent discount gift card deals. Especially interesting are those from Paypal Digital Gifts who is still running their $5 off $50 sale. Remember, you have to buy one gift card at a time to get the $5 discount on each. Price will reflect in cart.

Also remember that you can just buy any third-party $50 e-gift card from Paypal Digital Gifts for $45, and get 6% Bucks on top. See our List of Best Options for Full Price Gift Cards on eBay for many popular options.

Our Verdict

Awesome that sellers will now get Bucks offers too. Most likely it’s a test offer to see if it increases sales. Check if you also have any other sell offers which can stack with this. For example, on Slickdeals there’s mention of getting a $40 coupon for selling an iPhone.

From what I gather, it’s not enough to just list the item for sale during the promotional period; the item has to actually sell in that timeframe. This make the seller promo much tougher than the buyer promo.

I’m pretty bummed that I haven’t been getting the past couple offers, and I used to get these consistently. Wondering if they started a new thing not target those with big Bucks balances (mine is $289). Better luck for me next time, hopefully.

Remember to go through a shopping portal before making purchases on eBay.

  • Anywhere we can check offer that we activated? Just sold an item with this promo and didnt get any ebay bucks. Not sure if i activated both the buyer and seller now.

  • I was targeted for the buyer/seller promo. Does anyone know if I can end a listing made last week and relist the same item by the 9/9 deadline for this promo?

  • I was targeted for the seller promo. Can I end a listing made last week and relist the same item by the 9/9 deadline to meet the terms?

    • I'm not sure the process of ending a listing, but if you can do that, I don't see why this wouldn't work.

  • Anyone who has the cell phone offer + this one of 6% willing to trade buying and selling a cell phone for $200.

  • I haven't been targeted for any eBay bucks offers since the last quarter. I wonder if I ever going to get a promo, I haven't received a single one and I have never max the eBay bucks. I wonder if my power seller status has to do anything with it..

  • A family member was targeted for this and also for 500 free listings as a seller, while I was targeted for neither. I have less than $20 eBay Bucks and several hundred items listed for sale, whereas he has $0 and a dozen items. Accounts about the same age.

    • I never did either, finally made a new account and have been targeted every time. Just as eBay killed a lot of good stuff, of course, but I'm still happy to see those bonus emails - in a nostalgic kinda way.

  • It's not based on bucks balances. Only my newest account received the offer and it's almost maxed out.

  • Trying to resell to ABC, is the site down for anyone else? Keeps saying "Error 502 - Bad Gateway" for me. Maybe all the resellers broke their site...lol
