One of the benefits of the new American Express Gold card is that each calendar month you receive up to $10 in statement credits for purchases made at participating partners. The participating partners are: Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and participating Shake Shack locations (excludes locations in ballparks, stadiums, airports and racetracks). The most interesting option is Grubhub as they are similar to UberEats where they offer a collection of different restaurants. Seamless is basically just GrubHub with a different name, from what I’ve seen they offer the exact same restaurants.

Things To Know
- They offer pick up as well as delivery. Pick up obviously carries no delivery fee.
- Update: This has been removed from the F.A.Q, so I guess prices might not be the same.
Prices are the same. Some people complain that prices are higher on GrubHub than directly with the restaurant. According to GrubHub’s own F.A.Q this isn’t actually allowed:
The restaurants we work with are contractually obligated to match the prices they have set on their menus. If you see any discrepancies, reach us on our Contact Us page and we’ll talk to the restaurant.
Promotions
GrubHub often has promotions that make the service more attractive to use. We will always post GrubHub promotions when we see them, if you see any we don’t have listed then contact us.
New Users
These promotions can only be used by new users of GrubHub. I’m not sure if they can be stacked or not, if you give it a try then let us know in the comments below.
- Drop is offering 25,000 points (worth $25) for first time users. Might be targeted
- Promo code GRUBHUBAPP15 offers $15 off your first delivery order of $20 or more.
Existing Users
- Taco Bell: Free delivery on orders of $12+
- American Express sync offer. Spend $20 and get $5 off, can be used twice.
- Seamless: $10 Off $15+ With Venmo (Requires .edu E-mail). Keep in mind you need to pay with Venmo so won’t be able to stack with the Gold card benefit.
F.A.Q’s
Do gift card purchases work?
According to this DP, seamless gift cards don’t work. I assume the same is for GrubHub. The fine print also specifically states gift cards are excluded.

So I ordered Grubhub on Dec 31 to use Dec credit. $10 Credit posted on Jan 3. Will this be considered as December Or Jan credit? Ordered again on Jan 26 to use Jan credit. No credit posted yet. Have I already used the Jan credit on the Dec 31 order?
Hey, did you get the Jan credit? I’m having the same dilema
@will, FYI GrubHub removed that information from the FAQ.
Damn that sucks.
Does anyone know how long does it normally take to get your dining credit after making a qualifying purchase?
https://global.americanexpress.com/card-benefits/detail/dining-credit
"3. You'll receive a statement credit covering up to $10 on a monthly basis, typically 2-4 weeks after your purchase."
Having said that, I got the first credit on 10/15 after using Grubhub on 10/13, so it took only 2 days.
Now I got another credit on 11/6. In this current statement I had used GrubHub on 10/21 and also on 11/3. Not sure which one qualified me.
In other words I am not sure if they are looking at the purchases within the calendar month or within the statement period (mine seems to be closing on the 18th of the month).
It looks like it is the calendar month.
Thanks for the reply. I have noticed that too, 2 days after it has posted. Looks like it's based on the calendar month.
If just got my Amex Gold and activated the dining credit 3 days before the month ends, does that mean I can get the credit for this month if I make a qualifying purchase?
Question for the group - with this GrubHub offer, can it be stacked with an airline dining program (aka, Alaska's)? That is, will I be able to get the following with one order: 1) AMEX Gold $10/month GrubHub credit; 2) AMEX 1 extra MR point offer (making it 5 pts/$); 3) New user AMEX offer (GRUBHUBAPP15) of $15 off with delivery; and 4) Alaska miles for using my enrolled AMEX Gold card with the restaurant on their list?
bob. just follow the technology trail. its not always simple like that, but this time it is. this is true for anything related to shopping. when u buy grub hub. whos charging ur CC? the tech company? 3rd party? or the restaurant itself? so everything in ur list related to GH works but no the last point 4.
I placed a Seamless/Grubhub order on 10/5, which is definitely coded as a restaurant for 4x points. Dining credit is dated 10/9 but showed up in my account today. Hopefully, I see that extra point for adding the Amex Offer, too.
FYI - You need to ENROLL in the dining credit. Either on amex.com or calling (just like the airline credit). Not knowing this, Amex was able to retroactively pro rate my first purchase that would have qualified.
Also, you get 4x points for grubhub/seamless txns. Confirmed that with the rep.
thanks for finding this out!
Is it going to code as restaurants and earn 4 points ?
Yes. Confirmed on 10.9 with a csr.
THIS is the big question that needs answering! If not, then that means that you need two cards in your grubhub profile -- amex gold for the first order of the month; and sapphire reserve thereafter...
you get 4x poitns on grubhub/seamless. confirmed with rep. just make sure you enroll the card into the dining benefit (amex.com or call).
YASSSSSSSS! So happy to hear that. I have the additional 1x, and hope it meant 4x + 1x Toto 5 on grubhub until it’s no longer offered. Thank you so much!
Just before this benefit started, I got an Amex Offer on my PRG (now Gold) card for 1 extra MR point on GrubHub/Seamless purchases for the next few months. I added this offer to my card, and it's still there under Added to Card, so I presume it'll stack with the $10 credit (but it may be a couple weeks before i try it). But since I added it to my card, I can't tell you if this +1 MR point version of the GrubHub/Seamless offer is still around.
I'm surprised no GrubHub or Seamless (same company?) in my area but we DO have UberEats. I feel like the no delivery fee pickup option would get way more usage in my area (low traffic, easy on site free parking everywhere, etc). Instead UberEats is mostly $7.49 and $8.49 delivery fee from most places in this area and I've seem surge prices to $20 delivery a couple times (and I only open the app once or twice a month to use my credit up). I'm not sure what I'll use the GrubHub credit up for... I wonder if I can order for someone else and they can just go pick it up, maybe I'll be kind and build a couple friends in a big city and "treat" them to a discount every month or something, lol.
Maybe $10 GrubHub discount for someone to paypal me $5 and then I'll apply that to UberEats so I get $20 a month for them :P
