  • Fairwinds Credit Union is offering a $200 referral bonus when the person being referred opens a Spending or Checking Account and completes a direct deposit of $200 or more

 

The Fine Print

  • Offer available from June 20, 2023 – September 30, 2023.
  • In order for both the referred individual and the referring FAIRWINDS member to each qualify for and receive the $200.00 referral reward, the following conditions must be met:
    • The referred individual may not have previously been an owner on or a party to a FAIRWINDS account;
    • the referred individual must open a new FAIRWINDS consumer Spending or Checking Account with a minimum deposit of $25.00 at new account opening during the eligible program period;
    • the referred individual must open the new account using the referring FAIRWINDS member’s unique referral link;
    • and the referred individual must receive in the new Spending or Checking Account a qualifying direct deposit of $200.00 or more (excluding the new account deposit used to fund/open the account) within 45 calendar days of opening.
  • Your qualifying direct deposit needs to be an Automated Clearing House (ACH) deposit of your paycheck, pension, or government benefits (including Social Security) from the government or your employer. Person-to-person transfers (such as Zelle, PayPal or Venmo) and bank transfers between your FAIRWINDS or any other accounts you have at other financial institutions or brokerages do not qualify.
  • The referring FAIRWINDS member must be in good standing with the credit union and must be an owner of a FAIRWINDS consumer Spending or Checking account in order to be eligible for a referral reward. FAIRWINDS Credit Union employees are not eligible to receive any referral program rewards.
  • Rewards that have been fully earned and qualified for will be paid to each party on or about the 15th day of the month following the deposit of the qualifying funds into the referred individual’s new Spending or Checking Account. Only one reward will be provided per referred individual. A referring FAIRWINDS member can only receive a total of up to $1,000 in referral rewards per calendar year. Referred individuals acknowledge that payment of the reward will result in the referring member’s knowledge of the referred individual’s establishment of a new account with FAIRWINDS.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

  • @2 The referral program is back, now at $175 for the new customer, and $75 for the referrer.

    The new customer gets $175 to open a Preferred or Signature checking account with $25+ & do a qualifying Direct Deposit of $1,000+ within 60 calendar days of opening. This is a Nationwide offer! The Preferred Checking would be the easiest to keep fee-free with monthly $1K DD's. Once the bonus is earned, I would change the account type to the fee-free Spending account, or close it, as there is no ETF listed. 

    Based on past experience, does pull Chex, but is not inquiry-sensitive. No hard-pull, no EWS. Likely not to be churnable, unfortunately, as it says you must not have had a past Fairwinds Checking or Spending account. Offer expires 06/01/2024.

  • Got an email from them saying tax statements were ready but I can't find any 1099 from them in my documents/statements.

    • They send that email every year whether they sent you a 1099 or not. If you look closely at the email, it mentions that you may not have actually received a 1099. I agree that it is very annoying that they do it that way.

        • I don't recall as I received the bonus a few years ago. Did you do the bonus last year and not receive a 1099 this year?

          • I opened a ticket for this and they replied “Please note that the referral bonus is not interest earned and would not show on the tax document.”

          • Yes, I got the $200 bonus in July but no tax form showed up though I also got the “Your tax statement is ready” email.

  • $200 SUB posted yesterday for me too. Real DD $201 on 06/30. Account open email was 4:59pm ET.

  • Bonus posted today from referring others. I previously owned a fairwinds account so I don't think I would get the bonus for signing up this time.

  • Applied yesterday at 4:46 using a ref code via links on ref page. Got an email Today 6/21 saying I was approved, secure message confirmed $200 promo is attached to account. Guess I got lucky on this one, will update with DP's
