Fidelity Visa $20+ Bonus with Spend, Various Targeted Offers

The Offer

Direct Link (requires unique offer code)

The Fidelity 2% Visa card from Elan is sending out various targeted spend offers on the card.

All are for a promotional period from March 1 through April 30, and all the bonuses work with a requirement to spend $xx and then get a bonus 1% back on up to $xx in spend.

The best offer is:

  • Spend $50, then earn an extra 1% back (total 3% back) on the next $2,000 in spend. Basically, spend $2050 and get $41 in regular cashback + $20 in bonus cash back.

All the other variants of this offer add more spend before the extra 1% kicks in: spend $100/ $300/ $500/ $650/ $900/ $1050/ $2,000/ $2,100/ $2900/ $3,000/ $3,400/ $5,400; then get an extra 1% on the next $2,000 in spend.

A few other bonus offers some people are seeing:

  • Spend $1950 and get a $39 bonus; should end up being 4% everywhere with $1,950 in spend
  • Spend $2,100 and get a $42 bonus; should end up being 4% everywhere with $2,100 in spend
  • Spend $500 and get an extra $150 on top of regular cash back
  • Spend $700, then earn an extra 1% back (total 3% back) on up to $1,400 in spend

Our Verdict

I found it pretty hysterical that there are so many different offers, as if a bored secretary randomly put whatever offer came to their mind. More likely, there’s an algorithm which is deciding the offer based on your prior spend history, and that algorithm automatically changes the spend amount for each person.

All of these offers could be useful for someone who has a lot of 2% spend. For those with more limited spend, the low-spend requirement offers are pretty good since you’ll end up pretty close to 3% back on purchases.

I haven’t yet gotten any email offers myself, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’ll still come as this offer seems widespread.

  • I've been a fidelity card member for 6 years. Probably put close to 40k on that card last year. Didn't see any offers so I called them up. Said I wasn't qualify, it's only for new members.

    • I am not a new member. I think it is really targeted to customers who are not spending enough as per their standard. The minimum you must spend to start getting bonus points is based on your monthly average spending. Since you are spending too much already, you are not their target.

  • I guess I'm not a valued customer...didn't get an e-mail.

I probably use it too much--it's my go-to card for everyday purchases where I can't get a higher % back.

  • Believe you're correct with the algorithm. Our offer kicks in at $4900 which us just about two months' spending for us.

  • Here's my offer:

"a minimum of $3,400 from March 1 through April 30, 2017, net purchases over $3,400 will earn up to an additional 2,000 bonus points (1 bonus point per dollar spent),¹ redeemable for cash back (up to $20)"

So I'd have to spend $5400 in the next two months for an effective 2.37% CB. Not a great deal... maybe I'll pay taxes or something.

Definitely seems tied to past spend. My spending has really dropped off recently with the Ink+ and CSR I got recently, though.

  • Once you spend a minimum of $700 from March 1 through April 30, 2017, net purchases over $700 will earn up to an additional 2,000 bonus points (1 bonus point per dollar spent),¹ redeemable for cash back (up to $20) into an eligible Fidelity account!² Be sure to enroll in the offer by March 31.

  • Mine: "Once you spend a minimum of $5,200 from March 1 through April 30, 2017, net purchases over $5,200 will earn up to an additional 2,000 bonus points (1 bonus point per dollar spent),¹ redeemable for cash back (up to $20) into an eligible Fidelity account!"

Completely not worth it compared to my BoA Travel Rewards with 2.625% on everything.

  • Once you spend a minimum of $2,750 from March 1 through April 30, 2017, you'll get 5,500 bonus points¹

  • Looks I got an offer that's a bit different (4% effective cashback for $350 spend):
"you’re eligible to earn 700 bonus points!¹ It’s simple. Once you spend a minimum of $350 from March 1 through April 30, 2017, you’ll get 700 bonus points"
