Deal has expired, but there is now a $250 bonus instead. More information here.
Small update: You don’t actually need to open in branch. After you e-mail yourself the coupon it’s possible to open the account via phone. Still not as easy as online opening, but at least you don’t have to go into a branch. Hat tip to reader Dan.

If you’re in an area that has free checking, that account is also eligible.
Essentials Checking $11 Monthly Fee

Early Account Termination Fee
This account does not have an early account termination fee
Our Verdict
Update: Deal is better than first thought as it looks like you can put the $15,000 into an 11 month CD that earns 2% APY.
Previous best offer was $300 (same requirements as the $200 bonus in this one), so this is basically an extra $100 for keeping $15,000 deposited for 90 days. If those funds were put in a 2% account you’d earn $74 so the deals are similar in that respect (although you could have the funds in an account earning up to 5% APY). We also haven’t seen the $300 bonus since last year and even then it has only been offered once, the standard bonus is $200 (sometimes $250). Another downside to this offer is that it requires opening in branch. I think if you have the $15,000 in funds available I’d do this deal, otherwise definitely just wait for a bigger bonus to come along. I’ll be adding this to our best checking account bonus page.

This $375 deal for a $500 DD has been extended to September 30, 2022, so I'd remove the [Expired] from the title.
DP:
7/01: Directed to open in-branch, gave banker my offer code and deposited $6
7/05: Deposited an additional $30
7/13: $1900+ employer DD
7/14: $375 bonus posted
You're posting to the $200 + $200 thread. The $375 isn't marked as expired.
@will True, but the $375 bonus in the best bonuses routes to the $200+$200 thread.
Thanks, let me fix.
DP:
I opened account with $1300 ... later i deposited $13800 to take my total beyond $15k
I received both $200 bonus.
Once after maintaining 1500 minimum balance for 60 days and second bonus after 90 days from total $15k deposit
Opened on 12/19/18, fund reached $15.5k by 1/7/18. finally got the second $200 on 4/12/19, the day after i sent them an inquiry. Not sure if was coincidence or because of my email nudge.
DP,
The $250 is back.

I did this $200 offer and just received it - minus $48 labeled "Cash Bonus Tax Withheld". This is the first bank account bonus that has ever withheld tax, so I thought I'd throw you the DP. Thanks for all that you do here!
Looks like the offer may now be $250.
Finally received my second $200.
They added it manually yesterday after my visit to the branch.
First bonus was marked as "Congratulations! You've Earned Your Cash Bonus Thank You For Banking With Fifth Third".
Second as "You've Earned Your Cash Bonus! Reach Your Savings Goals Faster By Transferring It to a Fifth Third Savings. Visit 53.Com to Learn More."
By the way - my friend's account was closed automatically after 45 days of non-activity and there was nothing on it.
Looks like it is for $250 now. The link in the article directs to this: "Start with a $250 bonus
Open a new Fifth Third Essential Checking® account and reach a balance of $500 or more and then maintain a balance of at least $500 for 60 days from the date the balance requirement is reached.
Offer expires March 31, 2019. See all terms & conditions."
Just opened 2 weeks ago, so far nothing smooth, from all sorts of limits and rules on mobile deposit or ach transfers to incompetent customer service. Such pain just to fund the account, can't imagine later on dealing with bonus posting. Very much regret opening the account with this bank.
Link takes you to new $250 checking bonus, exp 3/31/18. Pretty easy to meet requirements.
