Person-to-Person and bank transfers between your Busey accounts are not considered a direct deposit. The $300 will be credited into your new account within 10 business days of the preceding month after completing each of the qualifying activity requirements. To receive the credit, your checking account must be open and in good standing.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

Foundation checking has no monthly fee with direct deposit or average balance of $100; otherwise, pay a $5 monthly fee.

Beginning May 1, 2024, Foundation Checking will be updated with the following:

  • No monthly maintenance fee (previously $5)
  • No minimum balance or direct deposit requirement

Early Account Termination Fee

“Accounts closed within 90 days of opening will be charged a service fee of $25.00

Our Verdict

Think this is worth doing as it’s a large bonus, we just don’t have any datapoints on what works as a direct deposit. We will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

  • OOS online no longer works. Applied from CA and got "Unfortunately, we are unable to open your Busey Foundation Checking account at this time." But I was on phone with a rep because I was having browser trouble (note to turn off Ad-block), and the rep said that they cannot open accounts outside of their footprint. Made it seem like it was a change/shift compared to the past too.

    • You should share your Chex report inquiries. 9/2 and lol/6 is insane. Curious to see which pulled and what you got approved lol.

  • Data point: Doordash and Uber Eats DD apparently don't qualify. Found out the hard way. Jerks. Never had this problem with other bank bonuses

  • I just don't understand the obsession of these dd requirements. Do these banks or rather their marketing team think people who change their payment account with their employer will hesitate to change it again and just stay with said bank?

    • Yes. The majority of folks set up their DD to a certain bank account and never change it again...ever. Before I got into bank bonuses I've had my employment dd's going to to the same checking account for 30+ years.

Most people are too lazy to change a DD for a bonus especially as they have a lot of bills auto deducted.

      We are the outliers.

    • I’m sure that’s what some of them think. Or some that require several months think it will give them enough time to show that they’re the bank for them, who knows.

  • Requirements are different this time. 1k+ DD and 3 debit transactions every month for $50/month bonus up to 6 months ($300 total)

      • Not to mention it seems like only business ACH payments or real DD works. Reminds me of Keypoint CU's bonus but worse
