FutureCard Visa Debit card is a prepaid debit account with a FDIC insured bank backing which offers 5% cashback on select categories:
- Trains, buses, subway, metro, light rail & commuter rail
- Online marketplaces for gently-used clothing & thrift stores
- Electric vehicle charging
- Bike shops (bikes, ebikes, cycling accessories and repairs)
- Electric scooters, mopeds and bikeshares
They also offer 6% cashback on select health/eco-friendly partners and 1% cashback on all other purchases.
Currently there is no physical card and you can only use the card number online or you can add it to your mobile wallet and use in-store.
They also offer a referral program whereby the referrer and new member each get $15. Feel free to share referrals (once) in the comments below. You must click the referral link on your mobile phone, and download from there the Future app, to be eligible.

Got an email from Future, it seems that we need to agree to "upgrade" whatever that means.
"If you choose to upgrade, you’ll receive a new account number and new debit card(s) on or before September 30. Our banking partner remains Piermont Bank, based in New York, NY.
If you prefer not to upgrade, your Future account and FutureCard(s) will stop working on September 30. Any deposit balance will be returned to you by paper check to the mailing address we have on file."
