Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

There are no monthly fees to worry about

Early Account Termination Fee

I wasn’t able to find a full fee schedule so I’m unsure if there is any early account termination fee or not. According to this comment it’s $10 if closed within 90 days.

Our Verdict

Not a bad bonus if you can easily change your direct deposit, not sure I’d be wanting to bother with this one if that wasn’t possible as the direct deposit is needed for such a long time to get the full bonus. The 3% APY account might also be worth keeping long term considering it only really needs an ACH transfer and eStatements to keep that rate (update: requires 12 debit card transactions as well, making it less useful). I’ll still add it to the best checking bonuses, just keep in mind that direct deposit requirement.

  • Account opened: March 2019

Got my 11th DD late March 2020, and was denied bonus.

Filed a CFPB complaint, only to find that APB is not in their database LOL

  • Anyone else having trouble setting up DD? I opened my account on 2/2 and haven't received anything from them that shows my routing or account number. Sent a secure message on their joke of a website last week asking for them and haven't heard back yet.

      • Thanks, I was able to find that, just can't find my account number. I've opened the account and received my debit card, but can't find the account number anywhere on their site or anything I've received from them.

    • I had no issues opening the account. I had to upload my DL and signed documents. I also called them to make sure they had everything they needed to open account. Did you call the bank yet?

      • The account was opened fine, I just can't find my account number to setup direct deposits. Haven't called the bank yet, was hoping someone found an easier path.

  • DP - Spoke to the banker over the phone and opened the account online successfully. Soft Pull (Chex systems), no CC funding (only ACH transfer from other banks). They will ask you to sign a document and will ask your DL for verification before approving your account. No monthly maintenance fee but if you're opening 3% APY for up to $10k - then you need to enroll in to estatements, make 12 debit transactions and have any amount ACH transfer within the statement period.

    • I looked at the direct link to the offer. What the heck is item 2 in boldface at the bottom of the offer???? A minimum balance of $25,000 is required for the entire 6 and 12 month periods to be eligible for the bonus?? Is this something new that was recently added to the offer? If so, forget it !!

      • That part looks like it refers to a "personal money market account bonus offer" not the "personal checking account bonus offer" listed above.

Can't find any info on their site about the money market account but it doesn't read like it is a requirement for the checking account bonus IMHO.

          • for god's sake, I've received the Bonus requirement document from the banker and it DOESN'T have any $25,000 requirement. Below is what I've received....

        • Thanks! That is kind of what I thought had happened. One of their branches is less than 5 miles from where I live, but I absolutely HATE banks that will bait and switch and change their conditions to trick customers. By the way, your site is GREAT ! You have made me several thousand dollars over the past four years!!

  • Does anyone know about CC funding yet?

I am always on the lookout for a bank bonus that permits substantial CC funding ($1000 or more) and codes as a purchase. Opening that bank account then pairs beautifully with opening a credit card (helps to meet the minimum spend on the card).

I work hard to keep my spending very low, so it becomes a challenge for me to meet the typical 3k MSR for a new card. CC funding for a paired bank bonus becomes a huge help.

I'd be grateful for whatever anyone discovers.... thanks!

  • Don't forget to close it after bonus posts: "Dormant Account Fee Charge (per month) ... $5 Account is considered dormant if for 12 months no withdrawals or deposits, other than credited interest, have been made to the account and we have received no communication from you about the account."

Also I couldn't find a minimum amount for direct deposit. I'm going to have my employer put $100/pay period in.
