  • I've been a loyal GameStop customer for decades, whether it's trading in used games, buying new accessories, or simply browsing for something interesting. I prefer to go into the stores, but their online presence has expanded greatly as of late and the prices are competitive with other marketplaces.

I had a very helpful conversation with one of their sales associates regarding a warranty on my PS4 controller and finally got around to upgrading my PowerUp Rewards membership to the Pro version. You receive a $5 monthly reward certificate ($60 annually), so the price of $15/year pays for itself after 3 months.

The GameStop app has also made the transition to the digital marketplace easier with its convenience and ease of use. It's fun to browse the new items you don't normally see in-stores, and I'm looking forward to putting those Reward points to good use.

  • I just received my first $5 monthly certificate. Can anyone recommend something on their web site that it can be used for for around $5 cost?

  • Anything preventing me from holding multiple accounts? $10 for $70 worth of credit is a good deal, but $100 for $700 is an even better deal...

  • It seems like this is over, for the $9.99 part anyway. It's back to $14.99 but still includes the 10,000 points.

  • Does anyone know if the reward (10,000 points redemption) could work towards buying physical gift cards like Amazon in store? I have seen data points that the rewards would work on some game codes but I don't play games. Also wonder about the $5 monthly, but I probably won't go in store every month.

My local store only has the $25-$500 amazon gift cards

    • They do not. You can buy "virtual currency" cards - like steam, ps, ms, etc. but no "other brand gift cards" (i'm using their words here - I asked on Sat), so Apple, Amazon, etc. are a no go.

      • I've redeemed the $5 monthly credit for a physical $10 Apple gift card for the past year. Alternatively, my SO signed up for an account last week and generated a 10,000 point certificate from the sign up and successfully purchased a $10 Apple gift card yesterday.

        • Stephen and Phil might both be right here. If its a store policy it might only be enforced by the clerks if the clerks know/care of the policy. So could be a rule thats YMMV in practice.

          • I contacted three GameStop stores nearby me. I got the unanimous answer that GameStop gift cards can only be used for gaming stuff or gaming related gift cards. Among the three stores I contacted, two stores double checked for me by scanning a non-gaming gift card, the payment method won't accept GameStop gift cards.

I also don't really buy much gaming stuff. Is there a best way to liquidate GameStop gift cards?

P.S. I recall I was able to make two purchases of Instacart gift cards on gamestop.com during the August promotion. But now GameStop doesn't seem to allow using GameStop gift cards on non-gaming gift card purchase online.

          • Haha, I mean, it's unreasonable to think the 10k points would be worth anything other than $10. Does the original poster think gamestop is offering a $100 credit with $10 membership? It's just ridiculous. It would be on the front page of yahoo. I guess the humor is lost if one has to explain it.

  • Important to note that the $5 monthly rewards do not rollover or stack, and must be used in-store and for that month otherwise it will expire. And from what I've read, the $10 bonus and the $5 monthly can't be used at the same time.
