Deal is dead and sadly no longer working!

You should already be aware that it’s currently possible to get 20% off Amazon by using a single Membership Rewards point. In fact people have been able to do the deal twice. Some people have not been able to get the deal to work sadly, although signing up for Prime has helped in most cases.

If it hasn’t worked for you then try adding the promo code AMEXSWP20PD during check out to see if that fixes the issue. Follow these steps:

It’s Not Working For Me!!!! What’s Wrong?

  • Make sure you’ve activated the offer first.
  • Try removing all credit cards on your Amazon account apart from one Membership Rewards card.
  • Make sure you’re applying at least one Membership Rewards point
  • Do you have prime? Sometimes it doesn’t work for those without it. Read this guide to maximize your membership & get the best deal signing up.

Update: Readers note that this version of the deal is working even on Amazon gift cards (!), so long as you have another $100 of merchandise or $100 of third-party gift cards. Just remember the 20% discount comes off the the original price, so in a way it can be more valuable than cash or Amazon gift cards if you’re planning on doing regular shopping throughout Prime Day.

  • Damn wish i hit it harder. How did everyone do on this? Was about to get 6 orders $840 profit. Would have been $980 but they cancelled 1 order. I paid them with amazon gc that i been getting for 10% off so thats $140 profit each order. Have my ways to cash out the gc i bought, and of course i won't let out the secret.

    • Hi I wasn't able to double dip because it took awhile to get my Amazon gc's. I'll patiently wait until this promo runs again so if I want to buy 3rd party gc's, would I simply use my amazon gc's or does a small amount need to be paid with a credit card? Thanks!

  • Hope this comes back from BF week. Having extra Prime accounts really paid off this time.

  • For me it only works on a total of $250 GC ($200 Amazon, $50 Whole Foods), and received a $50 discount. I paid 1 MR point and $199.99 charged to my Amex card. It interesting that if I pick a $225 Amazon GC and $25 Whole Foods GC, it only gives me a $25 discount, not sure why...

        • Seems that it just ended (midnight PT) - "Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately this offer has ended." and "The promotional code you entered has expired."

          • I had the same thing. I bought both physical GC. The order will be split into two orders. Whole Foods GC is discounted the whole discount amount, but the Amazon GC with 0 discount (because AGC is not supposed to). I am just curious what will happen if I immediately cancel the Amazon GC sub-order. Free Whole Foods GC?

          • Me too. Was planning to use up the discount. While redeeming my Amazon gift cards in checkout, the Amex 20% line suddenly disappeared and I realized the clock struck 12. Missed a $60 discount by seconds! :'(

  • hubby prime account works twice, one time with promo code and bought some amazon gift cards. I don't have prime, only worked once.

  • I used the previous promotion on 7 July and was able to use the code above today on 17 July, both times for $100 off $500, both times a combo of GCs, both times used $0.25 worth of MR points and the rest on the designated CC. And yes, the second time was a combo AZ GC and other GC, 400/100.

    • Can I make a series of purchases and still receive the discount? (e.g. an $100 purchase followed by a $50 purchase followed by a $350 purchase -- and get 20% off all purchases)?

  • Got this to work today (2nd time using the promo) after using the code. $400 AMZ GC + $100 WF GC. Could not use it a 3rd time.
