The Offer
Stop&Shop, Giant, Martin’s (page 9 – not yet showing)
- Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards at Giant, Stop&shop, and Martin’s.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
The Fine Print
- Valid 6/1/18 – 6/7/18
- Must use store card to get and use the points
- Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
- “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.
- Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
- Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Our Verdict
At the time of this posting (5/28), you can get 2x fuel points on Visa gift cards. When this Mastercard deal goes live on Friday, it’ll be the third week straight with a Visa or Mastercard fuel points deal. Readers have said they enjoy the heads-up so we’ll post now and repost when it goes live.
While you are limited to getting $1.50 discount from grocery fuel points, you can bring down the cost further by utilizing the Fuel Rewards program (assuming you have the accounts linked). You can get at least $.05 additional discount, plus so many other deals like card-link deal at the grocery (though reports are this hasn’t been working lately), and this Chase Pay deal.
Use Freedom or Discover to max out the quarterly categories, or use any other card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

I don't drain the cards right away as I use them for regular purchases. Has there been any reports of these being hacked recently or is that fairly old news?
Do people storage the gas? any suggestions?
Ask your friend to drive his/her car followed by your own car so this way surely can use up all the 20 gallons limit. I don't think anyone can store with a container or anything as the sign says dangerous and illegal to do so.
You are not allowed to do more than one car and they will stop you. Gas cans are authorized. Must be a gas can, no glass cups.
YMMV. I've been doing it more than 5 times with 2 cars
People usually fill tanks and then use containers to hold the excess so they can get to the fill limit
Yeah was hoping for some containers recommendations. What the biggest size
SureCan is the best. 2.2 or 5 gallon options.
Was about to buy 2 Visa today and 4 Visa tomorrow and so good that I see this post. Always prefer MSGC than VGC.
That's interesting, why do you prefer MC over Visa?
MCGC at stop & shop are mainly issued by U.S. bank. Those MCGC can be registered on a given webpage with your personal info (address and phone). You can go online to load your Blue Bird or Serve accounts with the MCGC, $200 per day, clock reset at 12:00am EST, $1000 per month. Because you load online, if you manipulate family member's account you can register the card under dad/mom/bro/sis name without any problem and load the money there and send it to yourself/ bill pay/ transfer to your/their bank account without any hassle. It's quick, safe and mostly important to me: convenient. I don't go to dollar trees or dollars general to load MCGC/VGC to BB/Serve. Also VGC cannot be load into BB/Serve, so makes MCGC from S&S and staples is the only exclusively prepaid cards to so. Even without the fuel promo, I buy those frequency still. The shell price is always higher than BP/speedway, with $1.5/gallon discount, that saves me $30 each time I fill up my car. I have this excel sheet for my record and I've been saving over $450 in gas since I take advance of this S&S fuel promo.
As a newbie to this, I tip my hat in thanks to you for the explanation.
Hi, A few days ago I was reading DOC's post about Heritage Bank eCentive account, and saw your comment about using your PPBDC for initial funding ($2K). Were you eventually able to use your PPBDC for initial funding?
Sorry, I didn't apply for it at the end because they require to mail the documents with my full SSN on it.
This should work with Plastiq MasterPass promo.
Wish it was this week though instead of Visa Promo.
The mastercard grocery promotion with fuel rewards seems to be posting and they even back posted for purchases in April.
I always find it amusing that they advertise this as 2x points, as if it's double the normal amount of points, when in reality you normally get NO points for buying these gift cards.
Is it 2 points per $1 or less. The FR are a like 3¢/gal per $100
Extraordinary -- and welcome news. Thanks, once again, DoC, for the advance alert. Very helpful for planning.
For MC GCs, remember --
(1) PIN is on paper slip in the packaging (not last 4 of card #).
(2) If liquidating at WM, you have to use the "Cancel-Change" trick, documented elsewhere.
Yes!!! Now I won't need to grab the Visa offer this week and can instead get the Mastercard with points expiring end of July :)
