  • Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer for December 11 – 17 to get 4x fuel points on the purchase Visa gift cards.

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon (max $1.50 discount in most). Points can be used at partner Shell locations.

Points are now usable on groceries as well, with a value of 100 points equaling a $1 discount.

  • You have 30 days to select whether you want to use the points on gas or groceries, then 30 days to actually use them.

  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.

Our Verdict

Wow, can’t remember the last time they had 4x, it’s usually 2x or 3x. Concurrently, they’ll also be running fuel point deals of 10x on Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s (for the second week in a row), as well as 10x on Giving Good and Happy Holidays gift cards.

Fuel points can be used to discount groceries as well, making these deals more widely useful. Use a card that earns a bonus at the grocery. Note: many SS/Giant stores have implemented a $2,000 limit in gift card purchases each day (previously the limit was $5,000). They also require putting it all on a single card.

  • If you’re not interested in VGC and have a home project, the 10x offer on “Giving Good” cards is a solid deal (if you can make use of all the fuel/grocery rewards). There’s one that’s “Giving Good: Habitat for Humanity” that you can redeem online for a Home Depot eGC. Also, 3% of the sales of the “Giving Good” gift cards go to the charity on the card.

  • In PA, I was able to do the 3x last week and the points immediately printed on receipt. So this debunks the $25 grocery purchase requirement that one employee tried to enforce a few weeks ago for him to manually credit points.

    • In MA I usually buy just the gift cards by themselves. No points print on the receipt but they show up online

      • Similar situation in Maryland. I will usually go over to the customer service desk before buying groceries so I do not clog up the register with my gift card purchase which requires a key. I have only rarely had a problem with points posting and that was a couple of times in the summer during the first day of the promotion, which they quickly resolved.

  • Is it still the case that the 30 day clock gets reset once you convert flex to gas points? So you could stretch them up to 60 days (at least that was the gas when they rolled out flex points).

    • how do you use those gas points. last year when i did this deal it automatically came to fuel rewards account. i guess it was before this grocery reward structure. this time i see 3k point on reward but it did not link or forwarded to fuel rewards.

  • I will add for stop and shop, my visa gift card 3X points disappeared last week. I had ~4K points after 2 visa cards + grocery shopping. I spent the max 2000= $20 points the next shopping trip and then the remaining disappeared.

      Does Stop & Shop not let you stack $20 redemptions? Giant does.

      • I could redeem 50 dollar in one transaction without triggering manager’s approval a at stop and shop
