Update 7/19/19: The discount works on variable load cards too. (ht FQF)
The Offer
- Stop&Shop, Giant, and Martin’s are offering one of the following deal: Buy a $100 Visa gift card and get $10 off your next order
The Fine Print
- Valid July 19th until July 25th, 2019
- $10 coupon valid until August 1st, 2019
Our Verdict
Will probably only work on a $100 fixed value card. Remember to use a card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

DP: $10 coupon printed out variable load Metabank VGC but not the Sunrise one. It seems to follow the same pattern as bonus gas points promotions in the past where Metabank ones would work and (most) Sunruse ones would not. Probably want to check the packaging before buying to save yourself some hassle.
Not convinced by FQF's claim that this promo applies to variable load vgc's.... If I read it right, he's basing his claim on the presence of the word, "in" in the promotion.... (as in $100 purchase "in" VGC's.... ) Nice parsing..... and hope he's correct. Yet he provides no examples of past promotions that worked as he claims, he just sets himself up as the "specialist." (Has he really been covering the grocery fuel points scene more than DoC?)
In any case, let the data points roll in. (I'd try it at Martin's, except the promo ad for this is not showing at Martin's -- though our self-anointed "specialist" ignores reports on this omission -- )
self-correction. I do now see more of the basis for FQF's argument.... specifically the June 23rd coupon promotion, which used the modifier "in" -- as "in $250 in visa gift card purchases." (FQF's own archive link on that promotion doesn't have the image of the coupon then, but DDG did - https://dannydealguru.com/2019/06/23/stopshop-giant-martins-visa-gift-card-deal-2/ ) Common interpretation of that deal was it indeed did apply to v/l visa gift cards.... (didn't try it myself)
I want to report it works on variable value card. The $10 coupon is printed on the receipt.
I guess this is useful if you're trying to meet a minimum spend and don't want to wait for (or don't need) the regular gas promos? Obviously $10 off (generally overpriced) groceries is not as useful as $30 off gas.
It's useful especially for those that have the $1.50 cap on gas points have earned enough gas points for the next ~30 days. It's basically fee-free MS with $6 for $10 in groceries as long as you stick with buying groceries that are on sale and everyday items such as milk and eggs etc.
Not in the ad for Giant(PA), for the other Giant/S&S/Martin's it looks like it's available to all without needing a digital coupon.
please add start date for offer which is tomorrow 7/19. (so it will not stack with the 3x points offer ending today). Also for this offer, no e-coupon and it should just print on receipt I guess.
Valid July 19th until July 25th, 2019
No love for Giant of PA unless it pops up as a digital coupon tomorrow.
You get uncapped fuel rewards, so I'd say no love for the rest of us.
Not showing either in the Martin's ads (for VA stores anyway)....
In any case, even if I could see it, deal seems rather lame..... ok, you get your high $100 gc fee covered (but barely).... and then you have the expense, time & aggravation draining the small card..
No fuel points either.
Not impressed
Is there an activation fee
Yes, probably $3.95 or $4.95. Not a very attractive offer.
Actually $5.95. Looked at a $100 card today.
