[Update] Giving Assistant Shopping Portal Shutting Down

Update 8/8/22: Checks are now being sent out, according to reader Jason who received a check for the full amount owed along with interest. Keep an eye out.

Original Post 12/1/21:

The Giving Assistant shopping portal is shutting down and going through the legal process of paying off their creditors with whatever funds the company has available.

You can see the full legal document at this link on Giving Assistant or here.

We heard reports last week or checks that were sent out that bounced, and there are likely other creditors who didn’t cash out their portal earnings yet at all. I don’t know what the likelihood of you getting anything from these legal proceedings, but it can’t hurt to file a claim. (I guess you contact the law firm to do so? but I’m not really sure.)

  • I just received a several hundred dollar check, including about $20 of interest for the full amount of the claim I filed.

  • At the time of my purchase, I believe Giving Assistant was the only portal offering cash back on Herman Miller purchases. I'm slightly bummed that I won't be getting ~$30-60 back for a ~$1500 chair that I thought I would really enjoy.

By the way I've been sitting in the Aeron everyday and I wouldn't say it's worth it. I added features that I don't even use (height-adjustable arm rests, tilt limiter, Posturefit XL, etc. I'm sure there are better alternatives in the $100-500 range.)

  • Got a check today after emailing my claim back in May. Looks like they are being mailed out via snail mail with a bit of interest accrued as well.

  • i emailed my claim (form posted below) back in december and never got a response. What did yall do to get a response?

    • Haven't gotten a response since then, but
      a) I did get a response from them a few days prior to submitting my claim after I had asked a routine question
      b) Got my check yesterday.

So I wouldn't be worried about the lack of a response after sending them the claim. But if you are, either email them again or just be patient a little longer since checks are going out now.

  • Glad I cashed out via PayPal last Oct. Still had less than $10 that were pending but I highly doubt I would ever get that even if I went through the trouble of filing a claim

  • I received a check on 11/10/21 for $6.15 that bounced. Giving Assistant owes me approximately $35.00, including the previous $6.15. Not sure if anyone has noticed but there is no place to log into your account information on the site, like before. They seem to only be offering coupons now & no cash back. Thankfully, about a year ago, I had started getting my cash back from them every couple of months, instead of letting it build up like I had previously done. I would have really been screwed if that had happened. Not sure that I will ever see the $35 but I will fill out the form & send it in. If anyone knows where to log in & get past account information, please let me know because I couldn't find it.
