Google announced today the renaming of their paid Google Drive subscription to be called Google One. The seemingly benign name change will come with other benefits as well – it’ll be interesting to see how this evolves over time.
We all get 15 GB of free Google storage, beyond that you have to pay a monthly fee. They’ve now added a new tier and lowered the price for paid storage. And Google has added a Family Sharing option which allows you to share a single storage subscription with 5 other family members while each maintains completely separate Google accounts.
Here are the prices going forward:
- 15 GB free storage in each Google account
- $1.99 for 100 GB storage (same as before)
- $2.99 for 200 GB storage (new plan)
- $9.99 for 2 TB storage (this was previously $19.99)
- $99.99 for 10 TB
- $199.99 for 20 TB
- $299.99 for 30 TB
On a broader scale, what’s interesting here is that they are now offering all Google One subscribers support for all Google consumer products. If you value this support, it’s pretty cheap to get it by signing up for the $1.99/month rate; you can even have 6 family members split the $1.99 fee.Google support may or may not have value to you, but they also note some other benefits:
People who use a lot of storage tend to use a lot of other Google products, too. So with Google One you get one-tap access to experts for help with our consumer products and services. Plus, you’ll gain access to extras from other Google products, like credits on Google Play or deals on select hotels found in Google Search. And we’ll be adding more benefits over time.
I don’t expect anyone will signup for the new Google One product currently unless they have storage needs, but it’ll be interesting to see how this evolves and if they add other useful benefits for subscribers, like an Amazon Prime kind of idea.
Techchrunch speculates that we might eventually see a single subscription fee for storage, YouTube Red, and Play Music; there could be many other such benefits as well. Of course we can expect the price to go up too if that happens.

There are annual plans too (at least for the cheapest tier) that save some money as well. And for everyone that has Google Survey Credits, they can be used to pay for this. I used my credits for the 100gb yearly plan @ $19.99 about a month or two ago.
I am curious about the Google Play credits. I wonder if they will be a regular deal with in this subscription.
Cutting rather close on the name change, I can see it eventually getting confused with Microsoft's cloud storage.
Google Drive + Google One = One Drive.
Awesome, was starting to get painfully near to 100gb. I imagine we'll get 300gb once I get near 200
If you need > 200GB but < 1TB you could pay $5.83/mo (@$69.99/yr) for Microsoft Office 365 AND 1TB storage.

Can we say "benign benefits"? 'Do no harm' lives on in lameness.
OMG. i have been waiting for Google to include a feature where I can make unproductive calls to India for hours. cant wait!
which feature are they releasing to make international calls?
u dont get the joke. i assume u dont call customer service often.
I already receive hundreds of unsolicited spam calls from India each month. Now I'd be able to prank them back!
As long as Google Fiber keeps getting 1TB and Pixels get unlimited photos...
Wish I could combine some/all of my services and have it be cheaper. Fiber/Fi/YouTube TV/Play music
Must be nice to have access to Google Fiber, never was fortunate enough to live in their zip code...
Wooo I was nearing my 100gb limit and the only upgrade was to 1tb. Now I'm going to only need to upgrade to 200gb. Saving me some $$$
Does anyone remember that AMEX BRG offer for Google storage a few months back? I wonder if it's possible to combine this with that offer if you took advantage of it.
I just tried with a standard G suite account and received the following error,
"Family groups aren't available for G Suite accounts"
If you just want the storage, G Suite for Business is $10/month and offers unlimited storage.
No, that gets you 1TB of storage. Unlimited storage starts at $50/month. Details at https://gsuite.google.com/pricing.html .
or just have multiple google drives if you need more than 15GB
That doesn't really scale well as your data caches grow.
