GoWallet to Close Down in 2016 (Gift Card Tracking Site)

Gowallet.com is a gift card tracking site which helps keep tabs on balances and history of various gift cards. It works for some Visa and Mastercard card gift cards as well as some merchant gift cards.

Gowallet has been sending out an email to active users that the service will soon be closed down completely.

We have some very important news regarding your GoWallet account. GoWallet was created in 2011 as an application to help consumers store and manage their gift cards. As our business has grown and evolved, we’ve determined that GoWallet no longer fits with our company strategy, and have decided to retire GoWallet in early 2016. While you will still be able to access your GoWallet account and the gift cards you’ve stored in GoWallet until that time, please be sure to follow these important steps as soon as possible: 1) Log in to your GoWallet account and keep a record of each gift card’s retailer, card number (and PIN, if applicable) and balance. 2) Hold on to your physical gift cards and/or the original emails containing your egifts in the event you need to reference any information printed on the back of the card or within the email. 3) Keep an eye out for additional reminders and updates about GoWallet’s retirement in your inbox. 4) To view important information and FAQs about GoWallet’s retirement, please click here.

It’s a little surprising that they’ll shut down a system which is already up and running; possibly the maintenance cost them too much and it wasn’t worth it for them.

Presumably, when Gowallet shuts down, their gift card reselling option will be discontinued as well.

  • How many millions have disappeared from our pockets because VISAGoWallet unilaterally decides that "no longer fits our company strategy" but if it's okay and ethical to keep our money and use it because they won't throw it away, it's a shame. From now on we must switch to MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, etc.

  • My 100 yr old mom was give a card. It has a use by date of 2021. I am trying to activate it for her. Is her money gone?

    • Call Customer Care 888-524-1283 and they will issue a replacement card. I had a 1/21 expiration date and my card.

  • Received a gift card for Texas Roadhouse that I never used and the balance says zero. Talked with Roadhouse relations rep and I was told this card number was used 6 days before it was actually purchased. INFO under "Gowallet" . This card was sold by a third party retailer. As the gift card recipient, I got a $0 balance card and the person who gave it to me was robbed of the money that it was purchased for. Never experienced this before until now. If I had gone to the restaurant before checking balance, this would have been most embarrassing!

    • Ugh! I hate that happened to you. I have a gift card that expires in 2022 but the gowallet site shut down. Giftcardmall won't recognize it so the person who gave it to me is also out of money and I have nothing. I may go back to cash only transactions.

  • I have a cold stone creamery gift card too and found that go wallet just keeps track of the card and pretty much useless otherwise. It’s valid at Cold Stone! 👍🏻

  • I got a gift card for cold stone, I couldn't seem to see where or how to activate it. I still haven't activated it. I recommend not to buy this card for gifts or anything else
    give the money.

  • I was able to register my card at the mygift.giftcardmail.com site just a few minutes ago. Hope that website works for other people.

  • Truly appreciate the conversations! I was ready to throw away the card I received for reimbursement at work. I wasn't able to register my card online, but was just now able to register it by calling # on the back of the card (888.524.1283). Once registered, the automated system provided current balance - which reflected correct total; and then I was able to check balance at https://mygift.giftcardmall.com (I was not able to register card on this site - had to call and key in card information - but now that it is registered, I can access transaction information. Hope it works for you! Thanks, again, everyone!

  • I HAVE A VISA GOWALLET CARD. I PAID HUGE HARD EARNED MONEY, AND GOT THE VISA CARD IN RETURN. BUT I TRIED TO GO TO THEIR WEBSITE visa.gowallet.com . BUT IT HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN BY VISA. THEY HAVE ALSO PREVENTED THEIR CARDS FROM BEING USED ANYWHERE. THEY RE ALSO REFUSING TO REFUND THE AMOUNT IN THE VISA CARDS. WHERE DOES ONE GO, TO GET THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY BACK +??? NOWHERE.
