Hilton: All Nights/Stays From 2020 Will Rollover Into 2021

Hilton has today announced that all stays that are completed from January 1st – December 31st, 2020 will automatically roll over and count towards 2021-2023 Hilton Honors status. This is in addition to the measures already announced by Hilton:

  • 2019 Status Extension. All members whose 2019 status was scheduled to be downgraded on March 31, 2020—whether it’s Diamond, Gold or Silver—will automatically receive an extension through March 31, 2021.
  • 2020 Status Extension. We are extending your 2020 member status through March 31, 2022. This means you will continue to enjoy all the Diamond, Gold or Silver benefits you have access to today for the next 24 months.
  • Points Extension. We will pause the expiration of all Points scheduled to expire between now and December 31, 2020.
  • Weekend Night Rewards Earned on Eligible Hilton Credit Cards. We have extended the expiration date of all unexpired Weekend Night Rewards as of March 11, 2020, and all new ones issued until August 30, 2020, through the end of next summer (August 31, 2021).

    I could not even use last years free night from Marriott, IHG and Hotels.com. I had saved them for spring break and summer. And I did not cancel the hotel credit cards.
    Have to cancel coming weekend bookings due to spike in Covid-19 again.

  • Anyone know for those holding Hilton AMEX cards (Surpass or Aspire) and have the gold/diamond status from their cards that if you choose to cancel/downgrade to regular Hilton card, you'll keep your gold/diamond status until March 31, 2022??

    Been debating to cancel/downgrade AMEX Surpass card that I opened August 2019 on September 2020, but wondering if I will continue to keep my gold status per their terms. Or maybe the status earned thru credit cards don't apply?

      • Based on my experience with cancelling a Biz Plat where I had Marriott and Hilton Gold from linking my accounts, it's typically the case that you won't lose your linked status until they do their status sweep in January/February of the following year.

  • Why would anyone interested in Hilton status not just get the Aspire card with its automatic Diamond?

      • The pop-up doesn't deny you the card and thus doesn't deny you the status. It only denies you the signup points. HiltyShilty was talking about the Diamond status, not about the sign-up points.

        In any case, you can only get the signup bonus points once per card in a "lifetime" (perhaps only about 7 years?) at Amex, while if you want Diamond status EVERY year, you could get and keep the Aspire card, which can have a "net negative" annual fee if you can use its benefits (free weekend night cert, $250 resort credit, $250 airline incidental credit, Priority Pass) to more than offset the $450 annual fee, even if you don't max out those benefits. But if you were to instead cancel and later re-apply, you wouldn't get an additional bonus anyway, pop-up or no pop-up.

          Gonna be hard to breakeven on Aspire this year. Still paid my AF in March upon renewal, but I’ll admit: the likelihood of using the airline incidental fee reimbursement is gonna be next to impossible.

          I’ve always felt that as long as I can get at least a $450 night out of the free weekend night certificate, I still find value in the Aspire.

          But most of those properties that I’d care to use it on are overseas or inaccessible at the moment for mainland US travelers: Maui Waldorf, Amsterdam Waldorf, etc.

          Not gonna waste it on a $120/night Garden Inn by an airport.

          Challenging time for travelers and the travel industry at large. Expecting more disappointment, more layoffs, possible bankruptcies depending on when those Cares Act funds run dry.

  • Don’t blame others when the so-called #1 power shows the world its incapacity of stopping the virus. Why most of other countries are doing better job? Reflect on yourself first.

  • The US Government should pay for its incompetence starting from Jan.23rd (the date China came clean and locked down one of its major cities)

  • I still recall a certain someone who rarely fails or wrong at life, went on TV and claimed Americans are at low risk from Covid

  • If it turned out it was an American traveling to China would you suggest we pay? China should be punished to failing to help resolve the crisis and withholding data, not because some idiot ate a bat.
