Update 4/8/20: American Express has released the following statement via MtM:
There were limited instances where a small population of Card Members received a manual $250 Resort credit, as a prior credit they received was applied to the incorrect anniversary year.
These credits and subsequent corrections are not tied to a broader COVID 19-related relief effort, and Card Members will be receiving communications explaining the reasoning for the credit shortly if they have not already.
That reason doesn’t make any sense given the datapoints I’ve seen, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see claw backs in the future.
Original post: American Express Hilton Aspire cardholders should check their account to see if American Express has posted the $250 resort credit. I assume that American Express is doing this because there is no way people can stay at resorts at the moment. Surprising move by American Express/Hilton if I’m being completely honest. Now the real question will be if American Express claws this back in six months time or not.
For some reason this isn’t showing up on all Aspire accounts, so I wonder if it depends on when your card anniversary is?

I got my Hilton resort credit on April 03 which is the same amount I used last year. My annual fee was posted on January and paid on Feburary. This is my second year as a card holder. My resort credit last year was not posted automatically so I had to call in and they manually applied. I suspect they may claw back the credit because it is the same amount I got last year so they might make a mistake by double posting the credit for certain card holders. If they were posting this year credit because of COVID 19, it would have been the full amount of $250.
A few weeks ago I called Amex and told that my Resort Credit will expire in Aug. and asked if they can extend it. Amex told me if I will not use my Resort credit by Aug., they will give me a statement credit.
I’m confused. So a $250 credit is being credited to the account without actually staying at a Hilton property?
Yes, to some cardholders
wow! wonder how they chose who gets it and who doesn't
I was think of downgrading my Hilton Amex card. It is TOTALLY USELESS
I'm close to doing the same. No Hilton travel plans for at least 9 months out. Seems like diamond status will run through 2022 anyways. Airline Fee credits have become annoying.
Wondering how quickly they will offer an upgrade bonus?
0/2. One card was a recent upgrade (partial AF just posted). The other has been around for over a year.
I had my card anniversary last month, and I paid my annual fee + some change on Friday, I see no credit.
No luck so far - my AF posts in mid August. Never used the resort credit, but have used the travel credit every year.
I imagine Hilton and Amex are being generous with this card because pretty much all of its benefits can't be used right now (status, various credits, priority pass).
I got the aspire card on the no annual fee offer last year. Could that be why I didn't get any $250 credit?
My card anniversary is late September and I just received a $187 credit. I actually have an all-inclusive booked in DR later this year that I was planning on using the credit for. I imagine the $187 is some kind of calculation that considers my anniversary month? The benefit is based on card member year and not calendar year.
Used the full credit in my first year, but my AF should post this week. I'll report back if the resort credit posts after the AF hits.
