Hilton Considering Adding 0.5¢ Amazon Cash Out Option Permanently For American Express Hilton Cardholders

According to a survey sent out, Hilton is considering adding the ability to cash out Hilton points for Amazon credit at a rate of 0.5¢ per point for cardholders of the co-branded Hilton cards. The standard rate is currently 0.2¢ but twice recently it has been temporarily increased to 0.5¢ for an extremely short period of time. The survey specifically mentioned this as an option on the no annual fee version Hilton American Express card as well.

Personally this would be a game changer for me. Not only would it mean that I’d keep a Hilton card long term and use Hilton cards more frequently, it would also likely change some of my hotel booking habits as well. What do you think of this potential change? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Think everyone is answering this wrong- maybe hilton puts these ideas out and reads not just the survey, but tries to scope out the comments on popular blogs.

0.5 cents/point on amazon would cause me to move major hotel spend over to hilton (im a lifetime marriott platinum). and major CC spend. it would be great for both parties!

  • I would love this. My Hilton biz for groceries/gas would make for some nice MS redemption via amazon.

  • I somewhat regret redeeming 150k hilton for $750 amazon. A week after I did that, we decided to book maldives for our honeymoon. A water villa was 95k a night, 5th night free. So it costed 380k for what would cost $7k in cash, which would be 1.8cpp. All wasnt lost since I just transferred a bunch from Amex MR with the increased 1000:3000.

  • I participated in that survey. The question I got was if I would like the CC promo materials to read "125,000 Bonus Points worth $250 on Amazon".
That's 0.2c per HH point. If the source of DoC info received a different Q, it would be helpful to provide the exact wording (to make sure they did not miscount).

    • It was a different Q, I won't give the exact wording because you're not supposed to share the marketing materials and I'm sure part of the way they track it is exact wording.

  • I want Wyndham and IHG and Total Rewards and Choice Hotels and Raddison Hotels to compete with Hilton. I hope they come out with similar offers. Frequently I look at Hilton hotels and they are FULLY BOOKED

  • Hilton sucks. I am now staying at Waldorf Astoria. Park Hyatt is way better. I have 360k pats to spend. Yes, this will impact my Hilton booking. I will transfer all pts to Amazon and never book Hilton again.

  • It’s tough to get 0.5 cents per point with award bookings anymore. I find my Hilton points piling up. This would be great.

  • This isn't that exciting to me. The no fee Hilton AMEX earns 3 Hilton pts/$1 spent on everday purchases. That would translate to a 1.5% Amazon giftcard credit per dollar spent. There are credit cards that earn at least 2% cashback so 1.5% limited to Amazon isn't enticing.

    • 2% cash back > 3 Hilton points regardless so the card itself isn’t enticing. However, I would be more interested in getting this card with the intentions of getting a $500 sign up bonus and not points that would be a burden to me (HH).
