Update: Seems like some locations start this deal on 11/29 (Wednesday) instead of 11/28.

Our Verdict
This deal should work on $500 gift cards as well, which results in a $4 Moneymaker, plus lots of free credit card points. Not sure if you can get more than one $10 discount in a single checkout. A Reddit data point suggests this is limited to one per checkout; you’ll have to separate the purchases to get more.
If you pay with a linked Mastercard, you’ll also get Fuel Reward Network points for a Shell gas fill-up.

Promo comes back tomorrow in slightly different form. Get $10 HyVee gift card with $100 gift card purchase. One of the cards shown in the tiny ad looks like a Mastercard gift card. The others are all brand cards (Lowes, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc).
Confirmed that the Style Anywhere, Dining Anywhere type cards also work for the discount. Good because the few is lower but bad because it's limited to $200.

Are there any stores that auto-drain small GC balances? I tried using one one at hy-vee using debit and it didn't work.
Don't hit debit. Swipe the card and when the screen pops up to give you debit/credit/gift card, just hit the big green button at the bottom right corner.
It will process and drain any balance left on the card. The clerk will have to hit a button on their screen to let you swipe the next card, so point that out if they get distracted.
Bought one this morning at my local KC area store. Only $10 per $500. They fixed it, darn it. Last year was great going back and forth between HyVee and WalMart. Only 1 mile apart.

This can be stacked with the Fuel Rewards program at Shell gas stations. Register one or more Mastercards with FR, then make a $100 purchase at a bunch of places, including HyVee and get 20 cents/gallon fuel credit.
This worked even better last week when HyVee had their "Buy $100 get $15 gift card" promo. Bought a Kohls card for $100, got the $15 HyVee gift card, $2 in cash back from the credit card, 20 cents/gallon HyVee Fuel Saver and another 20 cents/gallon in Fuel Rewards.

Need to update - I gave you bad info. The Fuel Rewards bonus is only 15 cents/gallon for the $100+ charge, not 20.
I got that mixed up with the 20cents I get from Choice Hotels on each stay.
Worked today (Tuesday) in Des Moines, IA. Only one $10 discount per card, regardless of value above $100. Sign said limited to one per customer and manager had to approve all gift card purchases above $100 so you can't get one at each checkout clerk.
Will check Minneapolis tomorrow.

But no, this was work related. Found out there are no Hy-Vees in Minneapolis. I can confirm the promo is working in southern Minnesota (Faribault and Albert Lea).

Check your local Hy-Vee ad before jumping in your car. Reddit member /u/ModernDayGod posting is in Des Moines, Iowa. It appears that the weekly ad cycle is different in different areas. That will impact the days the offer is good for.
As of today (Tuesday - 11/28/2017) offer is not valid in Metro Omaha.
