This may have changed recently during the pandemic but it used to basically always be better to book all inclusives by searching on third party aggregator sites (TripAdvisor, kayak, etc). There are tons of these all inclusives and there is actually pretty good competition for your business. So don’t use Hyatt points or pay prices on hyatts website without checking elsewhere first to see if the room is much much cheaper — it almost always is.
Hyatt matches prices of 3rd party sites it’s in their Best Rate Guarantee, it includes all fully integrated properties. The only ones excluded are MGM and SLH their All Inclusive properties are included in their Best Rate guarantee.
If we're paying with points, how do we get them to match with their "Best Rate Guarantee"?
You don't
Most of these being C already despite pricing lower than the ziva and zilara cancun is troubling. see the ziva/zilara going up the categories :/
Ziva/Zilara don’t have Categories they’re literally Category 0 if you look on Hyatt.com…
Click the link above, they're category B and C.
Hyatt doing all us couple travelers a solid just like Amex did with lounge access.
Unfortunately the extra person charges is where Hyatt falls short for the sheer fact that it starts at age 2. Ridiculous to have to pay an extra 10000 points per night for 3 year old who eats morsels of food, doesn't drink, and can't swim. Would be more reasonable if it started at age 12.
And this is at the family oriented all-inclusive
I agree, but isn't there a kids' club at these resorts? So that has to cost something? I thought I read it's possible to pay for a couple's stay with points, then pay cash for the kids separately. I thought it was $100-$125 per day per kid?
You have to be 4 to go to the kids club, which makes it more insane. At least make them align.
I was excited thinking there would be more A-B locations for those that don't need as something as nice as Ziva, but it seems Ziva remains the best option points wise. Better offer paying cash for the resorts so this makes them being part of Hyatt irrelevant to me. Maybe suite upgrade award helps?
We are at the Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana right now. 12k per night off peak and we paid $67 per kid per night. Or we could have gotten 2 rooms for 24k. I’d still say it is a great option for families. Yes, having kids age 3 at the Ziva isn’t great as far as pricing but they are only 3 one year.
For the lazy
Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya Category C
Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort Category C
Secrets The Vine Cancun Category C
Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort Category C
Dreams Natura Resort & Spa Category C
Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa Category B
What do these letter categories mean? I’ve only seen the number categories..
Edit: Found a more detailed answer in the award wallet blog
How are the new properties in Cancun compares with Ziva and Zilara cancun (in terms of food and overall experiences), anyone been to Ziva/Zilara and Secrets/Dreams both?
Are you Ted Cruz?
Ouch, still double the points for adding 2 kids it looks like.
You can save points by only taking your favorite child with you.
and save even more leaving the kids with grandma
Yeah, I got excited when I saw the point values for all-inclusive. Searched some dates around Christmas and thought "DoC must have the category wrong, this says 46k per night." But no, it was my 2 kids pumping the cost.
Still pricy on points, but with 2 kids the points for two rooms is usually the same as 2 adults and 2 kids in same some. Have some space and privacy and get the 2 rooms.
They will probably throw Ventana Big Sur in F category next year
