[Live] Hyatt Launches Homes & Hideaways (Short Term Vacation Rentals)

Update 10/19/23: Now live. Looks like you get ~1.2¢ per point when redeeming Hyatt points.

Hyatt is launching a new short term vacation rental platform called ‘Homes & Hideaways‘. Hyatt benefits will include:

  • Direct booking access to a unique collection of short-term private home rentals from beachfront escapes to mountainside ski chalets, where they can earn and redeem points beyond the traditional hotel stay
  • Earning points and tier-qualifying night credits on stays
  • Standard tier bonuses
  • Ability to redeem points for stays at home rental properties

How useful this is will really depend on the rates and if this is a white label of another platform.

  • Has anyone tried to figure out what property management companies they are contracting with to figure out the markup?

I know Marriott Homes and Villas uses Vacasa and a bunch of other companies. Can search for prices on Vacasa and compare. And it’s evident it’s a 10-20% premium, so the only reason to use MHVI over Vacasa is with an Amex deal especially if one needs elite nights.

Searching CO ski country and the selection is weird. No Vail or Breck, but they have a few listing in Dillion, so it seems like a small local company handling it.

  • I have high hopes, but low expectations. Meaning, if this were good it would add a lot of value for me and my family…by it I’m not expecting it to be good, I’m expecting it to be a poor redemption value.

Now that I have 2 little ones, standard sized hotel rooms just don’t cut it. Even a suite just doesn’t quite do it.

Airbnbs and the like are a much better fit for us than regular Hyatt rooms. Can Hyatt thread the needle and offer superb value on a totally new type of property for them ?…im gonna say no but would love to be surprised.

  • It can’t be much worse than what Marriott is doing.

Unfortunately, it probably won’t be much better.
