Update 5/19/21: Hyatt has updated it’s mask policy for the U.S.:
- U.S., guests who are unvaccinated are required to wear face masks or coverings in hotel indoor public areas, as well as outdoors where social distancing is not feasible (with some limited exceptions).
- Hyatt colleagues at U.S. hotels are required to wear face masks or coverings indoors, and fully vaccinated colleagues working outdoors, who are not in close contact with others, are not required to wear face coverings.
- All hotels are required to follow state and local requirements, if stricter than what is recommended by the CDC
Basically if your a guest that is vaccinated you don’t need to wear a mask (unless other local laws apply).
Update 9/16/20: Hyatt has now expanded this policy and will require face coverings to be worn globally.
Original post: Hyatt has announced that starting July 27th all guests in the U.S. & Canada will be required to wear face coverings within indoor public areas. Marriott announced a similar policy yesterday but required face masks for all guests worldwide, not just in the U.S. & Canada. Hyatt does state that they will be providing face masks for guests without one whereas the Marriott announcement did not mention this.
American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) released a stay safe checklist that included mask wearing indoors so it would be surprising if we didn’t see more hotel chains add this as a requirement.

You’ll need to calm down and travel to a legalized weed state. Chill out!
INB4 Marriott, Hilton, IHG in a week or 2.
That is a rather nasty and vile comment from what otherwise seemed like a civil discussion. Keep up the good work, and back on you sevenfold the evil you wish upon others.
@Doc, typo on the date, you meant 5/19/2021, right? Took me a couple of secs to realize.
Yup, fixed now
So far, most of these comments have nothing to do with Hyatt.
Might as well name this article "How Little Do you Know About Vaccines and Masks and Stuff: A Free-for-all Discussion"
I get that this is heated topic and everyone hates the CDC at some point - they flip flop their guidance all the time. Regardless of your thoughts on the vaccine do you really think masks make any statistically impactful difference? I mean the box says not for medical use, states without mandates didn’t have higher infection rates and didn’t multiple studies shows it was like a 1% difference? Once you factor in people getting sick from dirty masks it’s honestly probably a wash.
Not to mention the insanity of being crammed in a plane and forced to wear it, but all of a sudden when you are eating pretzels it becomes magically safe for everyone to take it off and eat. It’s proof it’s not about safety and it’s all about authority and control.
People have been wearing masks to prevent airborne disease transmission for a hundred years. It's common sense and basic germ theory. How effective are they? I dunno, but I can just as well anecdotally claim studies showed the opposite- do you have citations?
And do you think 'not for medical use' means they are lacking some magical property which prevents them from performing the basic function of being a physical barrier?
FWIW. I'm taking my mask off. It's over, the vaccine works. But yeah in the interim mask wearing was an eminently reasonable prophylactic, and it doesn't have to be political.
all the data we have show that what matters is adherence to mask mandates, not simply having a mandate on the books. States where people followed mask mandates have had much lower infection rates than states where people didn't follow mask mandates. There are many parts of the country where a mask mandate was technically in place, but you could walk into any grocery stores and nobody was wearing a mask
oh, and literally nobody has "gotten sick from dirty masks"
Wtf? Masks clearly work. They’re not perfect
Maybe, maybe not. Cloth masks probably don’t do much (if anything). But they are a visual reminder to not get close to someone. I can’t remember the last time someone crowded my personal space waiting in line. That probably does more for us.
There was a study done last year that concluded wearing a mask makes you more susceptible to disease. Because as you breathe out of your mouth on the mask, it gets moist and becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. Of course the study was swept under the rug.
Your face is susceptible to disease, so you might want to sweep that under the rug.
Viruses can't reproduce without hosts.
If you don't know something it's fine. Just don't go around thinking your opinion is as good as it gets.
You have already contracted one of the worst diseases in the history of mankind: The confidently ignorant disease.
The other post clearly said bacteria. Learn to read.
It's also suggested to change mask often for this reason, i.e. every couple of hours. The argument above is like saying: don't drive any car as oil degrades over time and engine will seize without mentioning oil can be changed.
Do you change your oil every couple hours? How rediculous a comparison.
Some things need to be changed every couple of hours. Some things need to be changed every month. Formula 1 cars change tires twice per race, like every 40 minutes. They change oil after each race, which is an hour and a half.
Depends on a mask. Medical masks worn properly decrease the probability of infecting others and also provide some protection to the wearer. However, I also found the mandates to wear them outdoors at all times to be a serious overkill. Those cloth masks are probably fairly useless.
Unless you are in California, because apparently Covid is still a risk to vaccinated people until June 15th, and after that point is no longer a threat... because science!
The virus targets people after 10pm, in between bites at a restaurant, and when you have alcohol without food.
I strongly encourage all citizens to research everything they can about "the vax" from sources other than Glitter, Headbook, Ubloot, and the screen actors guild (media).
Time to cancel my Hyatt reservation.
Time to cancel my Hyatt card. Only thing is i got like 45k points on it
Uh oh, did they hurt your feelings? They don't need your business anyway, because they just earned mine!
I'm sick and tired of these masks. if you are SO worried..STAY home. and stop telling everyone what to wear and how to wear it.
I am so sick and tired of hearing your kids complain about masks in hotel lobbies. If you are SO sick and tired, them get some rest...at HOME. And stop telling everyone else who they can or can't infect because sneezing on strangers is my god-given right
Sorry but masks are over regardless of your childish rant
Ain't no one gonna tell me how to wear my blue jeans and mah cowboy boots. Imma gonna wear my face mask on my butt because everyone calls them diapers
FUCK RULES FUCK COMMON COURTESY AND FUCK THIS VIRUS
Or may you could stay home if it is too much trouble to wear a mask.
The majority of population stayed home for a year. Enough is enough.
Now if you are still afraid of catching the virus even after being vaccinated - stay home yourself.
The virus is unlikely to disappear any time soon, but with the advancement in vaccination and treatment it's gonna be like seasonal flu. We need to live with it like we did before when some 20-50k people in the US died annually because of flu.
What happened to believing the science?
Fortunately this post is saying that if you get the vaccine, you don't have to be burdened by masks at Hyatt. More parts of daily life will follow suit for vaccinated folks. Things are looking up and masks will eventually be a thing of the past for everyone, even the unvaccinated, once we get to herd immunity.
