  • lol...why are you arguing about this credit card where the bank clearly cares more about customers in CHINA NOT USA.......if you don't want to apply, don't apply..the bank doesn't care about you guys....

    • Kind of. The bank obviously cares about customers in the USA, otherwise it wouldn't have bought this US banking operation off of Bank of East Asia in the first place. Spent a good chunk of money on it, too.

  • FYI the Discover card runs on the unionpay network if you find yourself in China.

  • Supporting the Party-State and its use of concentration camps against 1,000,000+ Uighur minorities in China by using this card? Priceless.

There are some things that money can't buy such as dignity, freedom, and ethics. For everything else, there's UnionPay.

  • It’s not the beat or worst card, but they tend to have weird offers I don’t see elsewhere, like the outlet mall discounts. They also have the ability to run as a credit card on debit networks, which can be super useful in places where it’s the most commonly accepted card.

It was a hassle to apply, and the EMV protocol it uses used to always force a downgrade, but both of those seem to have improved.

  • I used to visit Schenzhen once per month due to work. Sounds pretty cool to me. I remembered they are accepted as DS? also which bureau do they pull?

    • Based on my experience, they pulled Experian.

I would say Unionpay card is more broadly accepted by Chinese merchant than Discover, since some merchant may think the card without Unionpay logo is a fake card (I know it sounds unreasonable.....). In my case, all transactions through tapping went through, but doesn't work for online shopping.

  • ICBC is good if you want to transfer money from and to China.
    Otherwise, it's useless.

    • 牛逼。。。。。according to your logic..i cannot trust you because you are from china....then i cannot trust your claim that you are from china...lol...

    • So I believe you need to be naked in the street, sleep in the outer space, and die in the American underground. Enjoy. Loser

      • You'd be surprised. Samsung shut down phone manufacturing in China a few months ago, so if you've got a recent Samsung then probably not. I also paid extra for a "Made in Tokyo" HP laptop (which, is, in fact, manufactured in a suburb of Tokyo- they've shown off their factory to the press before).

        • I am surprised and disappointed to discuss this in DOC, but @JMR0303, don't be arrogant. if you hate china or CCP, just don't use any product from them, period. I repsect that but feel there is nothing to "show off". Meanwhile, like it or not, that majority use those products. I don't think they should feel ashamed as well. Don't judge.

          • I would say that the first person to imply judgment by trying to deflect with the "phone/laptop made in China" comment was the one who started it. I simply pointed out it can very much not be the case, so using that to judge someone else falls flat on its face.

  • Dear William Charles

Would you consider having a single page with all current spending offers on credit cards list like what you have for sign up bonuses or expiring deals.

This is more work for you and i suppose i could just use the hashtag. Upto you. But thank you.

    • Just use the hashtag, much easier to manage and that's what they are for.
