The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Receive a sign up bonus of $100 when you open a new checking account with Old National Bank (ONB) and receive direct deposits totaling $500+. Account must be opened in branch (branch locator here)

The Fine Print

  • Offer is not available to existing Old National Checking customers, or to those with an Old National checking account that has been closed within the last 6 months
  • Bank reserves the right to limit each customer to one new account-related gift incentive per calendar year
  • Automatic direct deposits totaling $500 or more must be received within 60 days of account opening to receive the bonus
  • The cash bonus will be deposited into the checking account within 30 business days after receipt of the aggregate $500 direct deposit or more
  • The $100 cash bonus offer is valid for ONB Advantage, ONB Everyday, ONB Preferred, ONB Classic, ONB Ultimate Advantage and ONB Student checking accounts
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

The best way to avoid fees is to open the Every Day checking account which has a monthly fee of $3 and this is waived if you opt for paperless statements. There is an early account termination fee of $25.

Our Verdict

It’s difficult to know if this deal is worth doing or not due to the fact that we don’t know if it’s a hard or soft pull and what counts as a direct deposit. You need to open the account in branch so you should be able to ask if it’s a hard or soft when you do that.

    • Odd, maybe they started taking down the promo early. If it's valuable, my email had the following:

Banker instructions: To ensure the customer receives the promotional offer, complete maintenance form I-2597 by entering promo code CHK100-1.

  • They don't appear to have branches in OH - when I punch in my ZIP, it only shows branches in IN. Maybe if you live in Toledo and don't mind a ~half hour drive across the border to MI, but for $100 I doubt it's worth it.

  • I opened this account today. They stated Chex Inquiry, no Credit Inquiry. Will report back if anything negative develops.
