JCB Is No Longer Accepting Credit Card Applications

JCB is a payment network similar to American Express, Visa or Mastercard. They have a strong presence in Japan and very little presence here. That being said they did offer a few U.S. based credit cards:

They weren’t hugely popular, but they did offer up to 3% cash back on all purchases so they were one of the best credit cards for every day purchases. Reader Alex F sent a tip in letting me know they are no longer accepting new applications. If you navigate to their website and click apply you’ll see the following message:

  • As of January 3 2018, JCBUSA is no longer accepting new application of the product.

I think the fact that this happened several days ago and we are only just noticing it now speaks to how popular these cards were.

  • I just called and they said a letter will be sent to current cardholders later this month, advising that their accounts will be closed at the end of April. They said senior management has decided to exit the USA market.

    • seriously? thats more BS than AMEX and Citi never telling us shit about Costco or HH and making us wait for info. April is very sudden and late notice.

  • I hope that doesn't mean they're going to shut down their existing cards as well. I use my Marukai card all the time and haven't received any communication from JCB that anything is changing.
