Had a couple of cheap flights booked in May using points, but found a nearly identical flight on Jetblue that was $50 base fare, so I ended up refunding my award booking and paying cash.
Other than a transfer from PPT to Bora Bora, I don't think I've paid cash for a flight in 13 years.
That helped in my booking. Was looking to fly to Orlando either by JB or American. The $50 off round-trip sealed the deal. AA basic economy includes the carry-on whereas I would need to upgrade to JetBlue "Blue" level to get the carry-on which of course means I have to pay $25 extra per ticket, which makes the tickets the same price. Only difference is that with JetBlue "Blue" tickets I get seat selection and no change fees (whereas AA basic economy has neither).
