jetBlue To Eliminate Change/Cancellation Fees On All Fares Excluding Blue Basic Fares

jetBlue has announced a list of changes:

  • All change and cancellation fees will be removed on Blue, Blue Extra, Blue Plus and Mint fares. Blue Basic fares will be able to pay a fee to change/cancel ($100 for domestic, Caribbean, Mexico and Central America routes and $200 for all other routes). You’ll still need to pay the difference if the fare you’re switching to is more expensive and any cancellation is processed as a refund to the digital Travel Bank and that credit needs to be used within 12 months of issuance. If the fare is less expensive then the difference will also be credited to the Travel Bank.
  • Guaranteed overhead bin space for one carry on bag for Blue, Blue Extra, or Mint fares. Blue Basic will be able to pay a fee for ‘Even More Space’. This policy goes into affect on July 20, 2021. This means no free carry on for Blue Basic.

  • credit card holders still get the free bag, right?

Somewhat surprised it took this long, their CEO was on the record mid last year saying that the industry had changed and change fees would not be part of the future business model

    • Cardholders still get a free checked bag. Idk if it has been or will be updated to be like UA where you can sub your checked for a carry on for basic fares. I'd hope that CC holders get priorty boarding as the B6 CC's have been devalued a bit, especially among peers. This is also a big hit to Mosaic as one of the big perks was no change fees but this is now standard on reg blue. I bet when travel returns the no change fees on reg blue goes away with 30 days notice if any at all.

  • You forget to mention that BlueBasic loses the free carry-on bag. That's the real kicker here - they're matching the other carriers with cancellations, but taking away the free carry-on bag with the lowest fare - so now on the level of United, and unlike AA and Delta that added the carry-on bag back to their Basic Economy fares.
Wrong direction in my opinion. Jetblue used to differentiate themselves by having a great experience, and not nickel-and-dime you, but no longer.

I guess this could be clearer.
