(Targeted) Join Capital One Shopping Via Referral & Get $40/$40

Update 10/24/24: Deal is back at $40/40. Hat tip to reader Flynn

Update 5/30/24: Deal is back – targeted

Update 3/29/24: Capital One Shopping has brought back their referral program at $40 for referrer and $40 for new member. It’s not quite the $200 from last year, but it’s still excellent for a simple shopping portal signup. No referrals in the comments below. I’d recommend not using a random link floating around – you have no way of knowing whether the referrer already maxed out their $500 limit for the year, and terms limit the referree getting the bonus only if the referrer did not max out their referrals. Asking someone you know for a referral is the best bet. Personally, I earned $500 from the last referral round when I had my link in the post (thanks to those who used my link!). The system shows a progress bar with my $500 being maxed out. This seems to indicate the limit did not reset since the last round. Others say the progress bar has reset. This is all unclear.

The Offer

Find your link here | Find signup links in this dedicated post

  • Get $40 when you signup for Capital One Shopping, install their browser extension, and then shop $10 through the portal/extension within 30 days.
  • Referrer gets $40 as well, up to $500 total.

The Fine Print

  • To qualify for a referral sign up bonus, your refer-ee must be a new Capital One Shopping user, sign up and install the Capital One Shopping desktop computer or mobile browser extension via your referral link, and make Qualifying Purchase(s) totaling $10 within 30 days of signing up.
  • A Qualifying Purchase means a purchase via Capital One Shopping that earns Capital One Shopping Rewards.
  • By participating in the referral program, you are telling your refer-ee that you’re a Capital One Shopping customer.
  • Bonuses will be automatically applied to your account and your refer-ee’s account within 30 days after satisfying these requirements, but issuance may be delayed during the determination of whether a Qualifying Purchase has been made by a new user.
  • You may only earn bonuses for a limited number of referrals per referral period.
  • Bonuses will be awarded as Capital One Shopping Rewards, and are subject to the Capital One Shopping Terms of Service.

Our Verdict

It’s not quite worth $30 since you can only redeem for select gift cards. Still a very nice bonus for any easy shopping portal signup and small spend. Find signup links in this dedicated post.

Capital One Shopping is one that a lot of us find useful as well for their high rates and targeted offers. You can always remove the browser extension later if you don’t want it; I personally ended up keeping it on my browser. See these related posts:

Deal History:

  • Update 1/23/24: Some people didn’t get their $200 bonus. Many are reporting having success getting their $200 bonus by simply emailing and submitting a request (help@capitaloneshopping.com).
  • Update 12/22/23: A lot of people are seeing their $200 bonuses reflected now
  • Update 12/18/23: Capital One is removing the referral program. I’m guessing the $200 referrals were a big mistake, will be interesting to see what happens.
  • Update 12/11/23: Back down to $40
  • Update 12/9/23: Some people now have links for $200/$200. Do not leave referrals in the comments below and do not make fake comments to indicate you have a referral link. (Hat tip to FM) Feel free to go through the comments in the referral post to find a good link (that page is closed for new comments). Just note that there is a report of a new member not getting a bonus since the referrer had already met their referral max, and the terms indicate such a thing as well (“Referrer must not have exceeded their referral-based Shopping Reward payout maximum…”). So it’s really best to signup directly from a friend, not clicking a link on a blog.
  • Update 12/2/23: Links have apparently been lowered down to $40.
  • Update 11/22/23: Max referral earnings limit has been increased from $300 to $500. Referral bonuses are still showing at either $75/$75 or $50/$50. Valid through 12/1/23. Do not leave referrals in the comments below and do not make fake comments to indicate you have a referral link. These will be removed and will affect your future ability to comment on the site.
  • Update 11/20/23: It’s now up to $75/$75 for some people. Other links show $50/$50. (ht Shawn) Pretty insane to get that much for a simple portal signup, extension download, and $10 of shopping. Do not leave referrals in the comments below.
  • Update 9/28/23: Most links are still showing $30/$30, but now there are some links that are offering the new member $40 or $60 for signing up.
  • Update 9/5/23: I believe everyone is seeing the $30/$30 now (previously some were seeing lower offers). Updated below.

  • Also if you have a regular Capital One login, there may be an offer there. I get one every time log in, it's at $45 at the moment I think

  • Use the Rakuten plugin but I'll admit I don't really check cashbackmonitor as much as I should. Have a $10 offer to install the Capital One Shopping plugin and I also use them as a bank so maybe it's worth it. However, are they typically just duplicates of Rakuten offers?

  • I received the referral bonus of 40 in my account on June 28, and another account on July 17, just for your reference.

  • I’ve been semi active for a few months now, but no referral options link. I didn’t verify my email and phone until today however. Any chance it’ll pop up now in a few hours/days?

    • The referral option happens occasionally, not all accounts will have the option. Sad

  • So I referred someone last year when they offered the short-lived $200 referral promo. When I went to redeem it today, it's no longer available in the account with no trace of it ever existing.

I also unexpectedly got credits for booking some IHG nights using points. I wasn't going to complain about the extra credits, but just checked and they did claw back those points over a year later.

Lesson learned to cash out these awards in a timely manner. Account is now in the negative; hope nothing else comes of it.

    • Sorry you lost the referral money. Did you mean that you also lost the IHG credits too? I redeemed my referrals quickly when some reported having issues cashing out.

      • Yea, I booked the IHG nights when the cap one shopping portal had 24% cash back. Don't recall the fine print on points bookings but likely not valid transactions to begin with.

Easy come easy go, as they say.
