Check your Kroger coupons for the following offers, valid this weekend (11/2 – 11/4) only:

  • Save a digital coupon to get 4x fuel points on Visa and Mastercard $100, $50, or $25 fixed-value gift cards.
  • Save a digital coupon to get 4x fuel points on third party gift cards. Will probably work on all third-party gift cards.

The Fine Print

  • Points earned in November will be valid through December.
  • Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points, though these details do vary by store and region.
  • Excludes variable-load Visa and Mastercard gift cards.

Our Verdict

These offers come up regularly. Make sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases.

  • Just bought the Happy Dad version, $50, paid $40 and got 200 fuel points. Will convert to Ebay gift cards at Home Depot for a 20% discount.

      • Yeah, sorry. I keep calling it that because the Happy Lady or Gal one does Godiva which she’s dubbed Happy mom gift card. Strange I can’t see on any of them that it does Godiva but I know one of the female ones do as I was on the phone with her tonight discussing this before grabbing the Happy Guy ones.

  • I use my Amex Blue Cash Preferred which returns 6% so the fee is paid for. Then I turn around and use the 5 $100 visa gift cards to purchase other 3rd party cards for an additional 2K pts. Our Kroger gives us the full $2 off on 35 gallons. We have a dance of three cars that we time to fill together. When we cant - we have those crappy spout canisters that drivesabrowntruck was talking about.

  • Trying to meet Amex SPG Biz spend. Anybody know if Kroger/Ralphs is L3 and will report VGC purchase to Amex? Thanks!

    • I’ve never, ever, had an AmEx problem and I’ve used Kroger (Fred Meyers) plenty for meeting MSRof various cards.

  • THIS IS HOW I GAME 4X FREDDY'S (Kroger affiliate FRED MEYER)

Of course if there are gift cards (AMAZON)i can use I buy them, but the best way to get cheaper gas is to buy ARCO gift cards. Our family goes thru $400 of gas a week collectively, and ARCO gift cards when bought/used at the pump, work at the CASH not Credit price. ARCO is always the lowest price gas available here in the once great city of PDX (prior to it's Californication invasion). So a $500 investment in Arco gc also gives us $1.50 in credit off/ which we fill up 2 cars at a time simultaneously at Fred Meyer Gas Stations.
It goes w/o mention always use a CC with grocery store 6x.

  • Perfect time for someone like myself who doesn't use a ton of fuel.

I can buy 5 of the $100 cards and have 2000 fuel points (basically 2 $1 off fill-ups.) between now and Dec 31.

I assume everyone here is filling up at least 2 cars, etc when they redeem a $1 off.

  • When I clip these they disappear from my account and I cant reclip. Anyone else having this issue?

    • Usually when you "clip" these, they go from the list of available coupons and appear under "my coupons". They stay there until they expire and will count on multiple qualifying purchases.

  • This perfect a time to stack for a new month. For those with the Amex Gold card, use your Gold card to buy a Kroger gift card (4x MR) and use it at the pumps to stack with your fuel points.

    • I don't think Kroger GC themselves qualify for these sales. Neither do the Visa/MC variable loads.

      • No, Kroger Brand and Variables won’t earn 4X points, I was speaking about earning 4X membership rewards points (Amex) on the credit card purchase of a Kroger gift card to pay for the gas with since the fuel pumps take Kroger gift cards as payment.

Make sure if you go this route you have enough of a balance to cover your fuel purchase,

    • This is also a good path for the random bonuses on Gap, Total Rewards, etc. cards that offer 10x or 6x on any spend, depending on how you value those points. Can beat doing MS for the bonuses.

  • Is it worth purchasing fixed VGCs with this promo or do most people purchase 3rd party GCs with no fees?

    • Well, if I actually needed Kroger fuel points (lately a big IF* ), you raise a good question.... But too many variables for a simple answer. (including: 1. how much of a credit card discount/points benefit you're getting; 2. the limits on Kroger gasoline discounts in your area, 3. if you benefit from the legacy Kroger i-wireless phone plans) 4. if you can get Kroger loaded discounts on merchant gift cards (check you account); 5. How much you could actually use favored merchant cards; 6. How much you can get back if you re-sell gc's You probably know all that.

About buying the fixed vgc's, I personally try to avoid/minimize the fees. 5 $100 visa gift cards will cost you. $30. (nasty $5.95 fee per card) for a gas savings of $70. (yet net benefit of $40)

      * About the big IF mentioned above, I've lately done far better with the fuel point programs via Martin's. (esp. as they frequently permit 2x and even 3x on variable load gc's....) There are still some costs involved (before cc cash back), and in my area, I'm limited to 25 gallons -- though my points stash covers it all. (even better, with Martin's, unlike Kroger, point balances combine from month to month)

This all could change, week to week, month to month -- so I stay flexible. (esp. if Kroger starts loading compelling discounts for merchant gc's.... hasn't happened as much this year) I'm also remembering that Kroger has (in the fading past) occasionally included the variable load gc's in the 4x bonanza -- but again, that's a distant memory.
